Cycling At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Keirin
The men's Keirin at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on August 16 at the Laoshan Velodrome. This track cycling event consisted of multiple rounds. In each race, the four to seven cyclists in the heat covered 8 laps of the track. The first 5.5 laps were behind a motorized pacer called a derny, which gradually increased speed up to 50 kilometres per hour. The derny then left the track and the cyclists then raced the final 2.5 laps to the finish. In the first round, four heats were held. The top two cyclists in each heat advanced to the semifinals, with the rest of the cyclists competing again in the repechage. Four of those cyclists advanced from the repechage to the semifinals as well, for a total of 12 semifinalists. They raced again in two semifinals heats. The top three cyclists in each semifinal advanced to the final, while the bottom three competed in the 7th to 12th place classification race. Laoshan Velodrome
The Laoshan Velodrome () is a velodrome that is located in Laoshan, Shijingshan District, Beijing, China. It was built for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The venue was tested during the UCI Track World Cup in December 2007. The velodrome hosted Cycling at the 2008 Summer Olympics, track cycling disciplines during the Olympics. It has a capacity of 6,000 spectators, a 250-metre oval shaped track, and a total land surface of 32,920 square metres. The Laoshan Velodrome will be used for international and national cycling competitions and training after the Olympic Games. The seating capacity may be reduced to 3,500. Denis Sergeyevich Dmitriev (russian: Денис Сергеевич Дмитриев; born 23 March 1986) is a Russian track cyclist. Specialising in the sprint events, Dmitriev's best result in international sports was winning a gold medal at the 2017 World Championships in Hong Kong. At the 2016 Summer Olympics he succeeded to the bronze medal race in sprint, winning the medal. Dmitriev is a four-time European Champion at senior level in the Sprint event for men, and the most successful sprint cyclist in the competitions's history. Giddeon Massie
Giddeon Massie (born August 27, 1981, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) is an American professional track cyclist. He collected two medals (silver and bronze) each in men's Keirin and sprint at the 2003 Pan American Games, and later represented the United States in two editions of the Olympic Games (2004 and 2008). Massie has been considered one of the best American track sprinters on the domestic and international circuits, having awarded a conglomerate of twenty U.S. championship titles since his sporting debut in 2001. Theo Bos (born 22 August 1983) is a Dutch former professional road and track cyclist. An Olympic silver medalist and five-time world champion, he is the brother of Olympic medalist in speed skating Jan Bos. On 29 November 2021, he announced his retirement of the professional cycling sport and took up the job of national track coach of the Chinese national track team. Ryan Neville Bayley OAM (born 9 March 1982) is an Australian professional track cyclist and double Olympic gold medallist. Biography Born in Perth, Western Australia, Bayley started competitive cycling in 1997 at fifteen years of age. He is a member of the Albany Cycling Club and employed by the Australian Institute of Sport. Josiah Ng
Josiah Ng Onn Lam (, born 2 February 1980) is a retired Malaysian professional track cyclist. Josiah was the first Malaysian to make it into the cycling Olympic finals becoming a three-time Olympian, representing Malaysia at Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012. In 2004 he was awarded the Malaysian Olympian and Sportsman of the Year after being the 1st Malaysian cyclist to make a final in cycling at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Feng Yong (; 1901–1981) was a Chinese educator, military leader and politician. The eldest son of the warlord , Feng Yong was a member of the Standing Committee of the Northeast Administrative Committee. Feng and Zhang Xueliang were born in the same year and grew up together. Sergey Polynskiy (born 16 September 1981 in Ryazan) is a Russian professional track cyclist. He won a bronze medal for the Russian home squad in men's team sprint at the first stage of the 2004 UCI World Cup series in Moscow, and later represented his nation Russia at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
