Cycling At The 1968 Summer Olympics – Men's Team Pursuit
These are the official results of the men's team pursuit at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, Mexico, held on 19 to 21 October 1968. There were 85 participants from 20 nations. Competition format The team pursuit competition consisted of a qualifying round and a 3-round knockout tournament, including a bronze medal race. Each race, in both the qualifying round and the knock-out rounds, consisted of two teams of 4 cyclists each starting from opposite sides of the track. The teams raced for 4,000 metres, attempting to finish with the fastest time (measured by the third rider) and, if possible, catch the other team. For the qualifying round, the eight fastest times overall (regardless of whether the team finished first or second in its heat, though any team that was overtaken was eliminated) earned advancement to the knockout rounds. 1968 Summer Olympics
The 1968 Summer Olympics ( es, Juegos Olímpicos de Verano de 1968), officially known as the Games of the XIX Olympiad ( es, Juegos de la XIX Olimpiada) and commonly known as Mexico 1968 ( es, México 1968), were an international multi-sport event held from 12 to 27 October 1968 in Mexico City, Mexico. These were the first Olympic Games to be staged in Latin America and the first to be staged in a Spanish-speaking country. They were also the first Games to use an all-weather (smooth) track for track and field events instead of the traditional cinder track, as well as the first example of the Olympics exclusively using electronic timekeeping equipment. The 1968 Games were the third to be held in the last quarter of the year, after the 1956 Games in Melbourne and the 1964 Games in Tokyo. Jiří Daler
Jiří Daler (born 8 March 1940) is a retired cyclist from Czechoslovakia. His sporting career began with Dukla Brno. As an amateur track cyclist he competed at the 1964 and 1968 Summer Olympics in five events in total. In the 4000 m individual pursuit, he won a gold medal in 1964 and finished in 14th place in 1968; in both Games he finished fifth in the team pursuit. Between 1964 and 1967 he won one silver and four bronze medals in the individual and team pursuit events at the world championships. In 1967, he also set two world records, in the 4000 m and 5000 m sprint. He then became a professional road racer and finished four times within the podium in 1968–1969: in Saint-Aigulin (1968), La Bastide d'Armagnac (1968), Saint-Raphael (1969) and Tour de l'Herault (1969). Mikhail Ivanovich Kolyushev (russian: Михаил Иванович Колюшев; born 28 April 1943) is a retired Soviet cyclist from Tajikistan. He trained in the Dushanbe Dynamo voluntary sports society, and later in Tashkent. He competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics in the 4 km team pursuit and finished in fourth place. He was part of the Soviet teams that won the team pursuit at the 1965 and 1967 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. Stanislav Vasilyevich Moskvin (russian: Станислав Васильевич Москвин; born 19 January 1939) is a retired Russian cyclist and cycling coach. He competed at the 1960, 1964 and 1968 Olympics in the 4000 m individual and team pursuit. In 1960 he won a bronze medal in the team competition; in 1964 he finished in fifth place, both individually and with a team, and in 1968 his team finished fourth. Between 1962 and 1970 he won four world titles with the Soviet team and five silver and bronze medals in the individual and team pursuit.
