Cursa De La Mercè
Cursa de la Mercè (Mercè Race) is a public athletic race with free registration that is held annually in the streets of Barcelona since 1979. It is organized by the City Council of Barcelona. The race is held on the morning of Sunday of the second half of September, forming part of the '' La Mercè'' festival. Its current route runs through the most central streets of Barcelona, with exit and arrival to Avenida de Maria Cristina, between the Plaza España and the Montjuïc Montjuïc () is a hill in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The City Council of Barcelona (Catalan: ''Ajuntament de Barcelona''; Spanish: ''Ayuntamiento de Barcelona'') is the top-tier administrative and governing body of the municipality of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. La Mercè
La Mercè () is the annual festival ( ca, festa major) of the city of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain. It has been an official city holiday since 1871, when the local government first organized a program of special activities to observe the Roman Catholic feast day of Our Lady of Mercy, ''La Mare de Déu de la Mercè'' in Catalan language, Catalan. Although the actual feast day is September 24, the festivities begin a few days beforehand. Some of the most important features of the festival were introduced in the year 1902, when parades included papier maché “giants” known as ''gigantes y cabezudos, gegants i capgrossos'' and a popular dance from Empordà that was becoming popular throughout Catalonia: the ''Sardana''. Montjuïc () is a hill in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Etymology Montjuïc translates to "Jewish Mountain" from medieval Latin and Catalan, and remains of a medieval Jewish cemetery have been found there.
