Almaty Arena
Almaty Arena (formerly Almaty Ice Palace) is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Almaty, Kazakhstan which was opened on 18 September 2016 and seats 12,000 spectators for ice hockey. Apart from hosting ice hockey matches, the arena is venue for boxing, figure skating, basketball, concerts, and other events. It is one of the venues to host the 2017 Winter Universiade. The arena is located in the north of punched Ryskulov Avenue, to the west from Momyshuly street in the Alatau District. History Almaty's successful bid to host the 2017 Winter Universiade, coupled with its (unsuccessful) bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, drove the need to build an ice hockey arena meeting the standards of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). Winter Universiade 2017, the XXVIII Winter Universiade, was a multi-sport winter event which took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan from 29 January to 8 February 2017. On 29 November 2011, FISU announced that Winter Universiade 2017 would be hosted in Almaty. Student-athletes from all over the world between the ages of 17 and 28 arrived in Almaty to take part in Winter Universiade organized by FISU. Jennie Frances Wåhlin (born 26 November 1997) is a Swedish curler from Huddinge. She was a longtime member of Team Isabella Wranå. She won a gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics as alternate for the Anna Hasselborg team. In 2018 she was inducted into the Swedish Curling Hall of Fame. Isabella Marianne Peggy Wranå (born 22 June 1997) is a Swedish curler. She is a former skip of the Swedish junior women's team, with whom she won a World Junior championship in 2017. Sander Olav Rølvåg (born 4 August 1990 in Sandnessjøen, Norway) is a Norwegian curler from Oslo. Career Rølvåg represented Norway as a skip at the biennal European Youth Olympic Festival in 2009, winning bronze.
