Curling At The 2012 Winter Youth Olympics
Curling was contested at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics at the Innsbruck Exhibition Centre in Innsbruck, Austria from 14 January to 22 January. The mixed team event took place from 14 January to 18 January, while the mixed doubles tournament took place from 20 January to 22 January. The Athlete Role Models for the Youth Olympics curling competition were Eve Muirhead of Great Britain and Uli Kapp of Germany. Romano Meier (born 14 April 1995 in Baden) is a Swiss curler from Ehrendingen. He currently plays second on Team Michael Brunner. Career Juniors In 2012, Meier represented Switzerland for the first time internationally at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics. The team also included Michael Brunner, Elena Stern and Lisa Gisler. The team finished the round robin with a 6–1 record and then won all three of their playoff games to secure the gold medal. Meier was a member of the Swiss junior men's team, skipped by Yannick Schwaller, at three straight World Junior Curling Championships. In 2014, his team of Schwaller, Reto Keller, Patrick Witschonke and Michael Probst led Switzerland to a 6–3 round robin record. Korey Dropkin (born June 11, 1995) is an American curler originally from Southborough, Massachusetts. Curling career Juniors As a junior curler, Dropkin won three United States Junior Curling Championships, playing third for brother Stephen in 2012 and skipping in 2013 and 2016 while curling at Broomstones Curling Club in Wayland, MA. As such, he played for the United States at the World Junior Curling Championships, finishing 5th at the 2012 World Junior Curling Championships and 7th at the 2013 World Junior Curling Championships. Dropkin was a member of the U.S. team at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics, skipping a team that included Sarah Anderson, Thomas Howell and Taylor Anderson. Martin Sesaker (born 9 May 1994) is a Norwegian curler from Trondheim. He currently plays third on the Norwegian men's curling team. Career Sesaker made his international début for Norway at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics, throwing fourth stones on the team, skipped by Markus Skogvold. The team finished pool play with a 3–4 record, putting them in a tie with China. The team went on to beat China in a tiebreaker game, but lost in the quarter-finals to Sweden. Corryn Cecile Brown (born July 19, 1995) is a Canadian curler from British Columbia. She currently skips her own team out of Kamloops. Career She was the skip of the winning team at the 2013 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, and represented Canada at the 2013 World Junior Curling Championships, where she placed 9th.
