Cumberland County, New South Wales
Cumberland County is a county in the State of New South Wales, Australia. Most of the Sydney metropolitan area is located within the County of Cumberland. The County of Cumberland stretches from Broken Bay to the north, the Hawkesbury River to the north-west, the Nepean River to the west, the Cataract River to the south-west and the northern suburbs of Wollongong to the south. It includes the area of the Cumberland Plain. Note that Cumberland County should not be confused with the former Cumberland County Council, a county council which existed from 1945 to 1964, and which despite the shared name was a legally distinct entity, with a distinct (albeit largely overlapping) territory, the Cumberland county district. Cumberland County, New York
Cumberland County, New York was a county in the Province of New York that became part of the state of Vermont. It was divided out of Albany County in New York in 1766, but eventually became a part of Vermont in 1777. At that time, Vermont was holding itself out as the Republic of Vermont and was not admitted to the Union until 1791. Located south of Gloucester County and east of Charlotte County, it was incorporated from Albany County, as was Charlotte County, Province of New York. This new County was created in 1766, reverted in 1767, and created once more in 1768. On June 6, 1775, a Committee of Correspondence of the County met in Westminster to complain about the tax acts passed by Parliament without colonial representation. Major William Williams, later a Colonel in Ethan Allen's 1st Regiment, represented the County as Delegate to the New York Provincial Congress from 1775 to 1776 (the Second Provincial Congress). ''Longmire'' is an American neo-Western crime drama television series that premiered on June 3, 2012, on the A&E (TV channel), A&E network, developed by John Coveny and Hunt Baldwin. The series is based on the ''Walt Longmire Mysteries'' series of novels by Craig Johnson (author), Craig Johnson. It centers on Walt Longmire, a sheriff in Wyoming. He is assisted by staff, friends, and his daughter in investigating major crimes within his jurisdiction. ''Longmire'' became the "highest-rated original drama series" on A&E; however, the network announced in August 2014 that it would not renew the series after the third season. Warner Horizon Television offered it to other networks and Netflix picked it up, starting with season four. Netflix released the sixth and final season on November 17, 2017. Cumberland County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,675. Its county seat is Cumberland. History Cumberland County was established in 1749 from Goochland County. The county is named for William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, third son of King George II of Great Britain. Cumberland County was also home to the Fleming family, which included Judge John Fleming and his son Judge William Fleming. From 1749 until 1777, when the eastern portion was detached to form Powhatan County, Mosby Tavern served as the county courthouse. The tavern subsequently became known as "Old Cumberland Courthouse". Cumberland County is a county located in the Pennyroyal Plateau region of the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 5,888. Its county seat is Burkesville. The county was formed in 1798 and named for the Cumberland River, which in turn may have been named after the Duke of Cumberland or the English county of Cumberland. History Cumberland County was created in 1798 from land given by Green County. In 1829, the first commercial oil well in the United States was dug three miles north of Burkesville. It is usually not recognized as a commercial well because the drillers were looking for salt brine, but the oil was bottled and sold. It was the first county in the United States to elect a female sheriff, Pearl Carter Pace. Burkesville is the first town downstream from Wolf Creek Dam, so it is considered flood-proof, but there have been concerns about leaks at the dam.
