Cumberland (Saskatchewan Provincial Electoral District)
Cumberland is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. It was created for the 1912 election, and was abolished into Prince Albert East-Cumberland in 1967. It was re-created for the 1975 election. It is the largest electoral district in the province, and at the 2007 general election was the safest seat for the New Democratic Party. Doyle Vermette is a Canadian politician. He is a member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, representing the electoral district of Cumberland as a member of the New Democratic Party. He was first elected in a 2008 by-election, and was most recently re-elected in the 2020 general election. Athabasca (Saskatchewan Provincial Electoral District)
Athabasca is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located in the extreme northwest corner of the province. The major industries are tourism, mineral extraction, forestry, commercial fishing and trapping. The Cluff Lake uranium mine is located in this constituency, as well as the Athabasca Sand Dunes Provincial Park and the Clearwater River Provincial Park. The major communities are La Loche, Île-à-la-Crosse and Buffalo Narrows with populations of 2,136, 1,268 and 1,137 respectively. The district was most recently contested in the 2020 general election, during which incumbent NDP MLA Buckley Belanger was re-elected, but a by-election is scheduled for February 15, 2022 to replace Belanger who resigned to run (unsuccessfully) for the Liberal Party of Canada in the riding of Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River during the 2021 Canadian federal election. Leslie Walter Lee
Leslie Walter Lee (May 23, 1896 – 1998) was an American-born farmer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Cumberland from 1944 to 1948 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) member. He was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Olaf Lee and Christine Fedge, both natives of Norway. Lee served in the United States Army during World War I. He came to Canada in 1921. In 1946, he married Janice Irene Wilson. Lee lived in Choiceland, Saskatchewan Choiceland is a town located in Saskatchewan, Canada. Lorne Earl Blanchard
Lorne Earl Blanchard (June 6, 1883 – 1967) was an American-born machinist and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Cumberland from 1948 to 1952 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, the son of C.L. Blanchard and Caroline Woodbury, and was educated in Cleveland, Ohio. Blanchard went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps and came to Canada in 1906. In 1910, he married Myrtle Cousins. He served on the town council for Creighton, Saskatchewan and on the local school board. Blanchard was also a justice of the peace and a registrar for vital statistics. He worked for the Saskatchewan Department of Highways and as a foreman for the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company and taught six years in the machine shop at the University of Saskatchewan. Bill Berezowsky
William John Berezowsky (January 6, 1904 – January 17, 1974) was an Austro-Hungarian Empire-born businessman, farmer, civil servant and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Cumberland from 1952 to 1967 and Prince Albert East-Cumberland from 1967 to 1971 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) and then New Democratic Party (NDP) member. He came to western Canada with his family in 1908 and was educated in Winnipeg, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and Saskatoon. Norman Hector MacAuley (August 10, 1917 – July 6, 2016) was a political figure in Saskatchewan. Keith Napoleon Goulet (born April 3, 1946) is a Canadian former politician, who represented the constituency of Cumberland in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1986 to 2003.
