Croydon Youth Theatre Organisation
Croydon Youth Theatre Organisation, often referred to simply as CYTO, is a professionally led youth theatre group based at the Shoestring Theatre in South Norwood, Croydon in South London, England. CYTO was founded in 1965, following a visit by Marjorie Taylor, a Youth Service officer for Croydon Council, to the Youth Theatre at Southbourne in Dorset. Having gained the approval of her bosses at the council, Taylor approached a local amateur dramatics group, the Croydon Histrionic Society, a leading member of which, R Willis Hole, chaired a working party to set the project up. The organisation was launched in the ''Croydon Advertiser'' of 10 September 1965, with opening night on 21 September. Thornton Heath is a district of Greater London, England, within the London Borough of Croydon. It is around north of the town of Croydon, and south of Charing Cross. Prior to the creation of Greater London in 1965, Thornton Heath was in the County Borough of Croydon. History Until the arrival of the railway in 1862, Thornton Heath was focused on an area in the parish of Croydon St John the Baptist, south west of the Whitehorse manor house (now a school), at the locality on the main London–Sussex road known as Thornton Heath Pond. Coulsdon (, traditionally pronounced ) is a town in south London, England, within the London Borough of Croydon, in the ceremonial county of Greater London since 1965. Prior to this it was part of the historic county of Surrey. History The location forms part of the North Downs. The hills contain chalk and flint. Alexander Matthew Wright (born 8 July 1965) is an English television presenter and former tabloid journalist. He worked as a journalist for '' The Sun'' and was a showbusiness gossip columnist for '' The Daily Mirror'' before launching a television career. Richard Vincent (born 3 September 1969) is an English actor, playwright, theatre director and screenwriter from Croydon in London. Life Vincent trained as an actor at the Drama Centre, London. His first play, "Off the Bone", was produced at the Courtyard Theatre in 1994. "Real Estate" was a selected play at the 1994 International Playwriting Festival at the Warehouse Theatre, Croydon and was produced at the Teatro Colosseo, Rome and developed into a screenplay by Granada Film. Theatre Vincent enjoyed an ongoing relationship with the Warehouse Theatre: his plays "Skin Deep" and "Happy and Glorious" have been produced there and he is Associate Director and head of their writers' workshop. Croydon College
Croydon College is a large further and higher education college located in Croydon, within the London Borough of Croydon. Its origins can be traced to a School of Art that was established in 1868, which subsequently merged with Croydon Polytechnic to create the college shortly after the Second World War. Upper Norwood
Upper Norwood is an area of south London, England, within the London Boroughs of Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth and Southwark. It is north of Croydon and the eastern part of it is better known as the Crystal Palace area. Upper Norwood is situated along the London clay ridge known as Beulah Hill.
