"Crown of Thorns" is a song by English singer-songwriter Clark Datchler, which was released in 1990 as the lead single from his debut solo studio album ''Raindance (Clark Datchler album), Raindance''. The song was written by Datchler, and produced by Datchler and Humberto Gatica. "Crown of Thorns" peaked at No. 100 on the UK Singles Chart. Background Speaking of the song's lyrical message, Datchler told Simon Mayo for the ''Reading Post, Reading Evening Post'' in 1990: "It's about the way we no longer respect the roots of religion, especially Christianity, and the way it's become commercialised. What Jesus said actually made sense, but if he was around and died today they'd make posters of him like some football hero. Clark Datchler
Clark Wynford Datchler (born 27 March 1964) is an English singer-songwriter and record producer. He first rose to fame in 1987 as the lead singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist in the pop band Johnny Hates Jazz. Early career Born in 1964 in Surrey, England, Datchler was influenced by his father Fred Datchler, a singer and saxophonist in two popular vocal groups of the 1950s, the Stargazers and the Polkadots. The Stargazers were the first British group to have a No. 1 hit on the UK chart, and had their own weekly radio show on the BBC. Later, as a member of the Polkadots, Fred sang with Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, the Beatles, Jo Stafford, Peggy Lee and Petula Clark (after whom Clark is named). Bob Kraushaar is an English pop music record producer specializing in mixing. Kraushaar has mixed and produced commercially successful songs and albums for numerous British and international artists. His first industry appointment was as runner for Trevor Horn. He graduated to tape-operating at Marcus Studios but moved back to the SARM Studios when they expanded and equipped with SSLs. His first chart success came with Johnny Hates Jazz, and he was soon known as a mixing specialist having made his mark with ZTT artists such as Propaganda and Art of Noise. SARM's associated ZTT label was outputting multiple 12-inch singles requiring alternative versions, and many of these were mixed by Kraushaar.
