Cross-country Skiing At The 2002 Winter Olympics – Men's 15 Kilometre Classical
The men's 15 kilometre classical cross-country skiing competition at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, United States, was held on 12 February at Soldier Hollow. Each skier started at half a minute intervals, skiing the entire 15 kilometre course. Per Elofsson was the 2001 World champion. Soldier Hollow
Soldier Hollow is a cross-country ski venue located at the mouth of a Soldier Hollow (Utah), hollow of the same name about southeast of Salt Lake City in Wasatch Mountain State Park in northwestern Wasatch County, Utah, Wasatch County, Utah, United States. Anders Aukland
Anders Aukland (born 12 September 1972 in Tønsberg) is a professional Norwegian cross-country skier who has won both Olympic and World Championship gold medals. He lives in Oslo. Aukland also used to compete in athletics, and is a former national champion in 5000 meters (1995) and 10,000 metres (1996 and 1997) as well as cross-country running. He has represented Tønsberg FIK and IK Tjalve. In his only international athletics competition he finished seventh in 5000 m at the 1991 European Junior Championships. Aukland received the Egebergs Ærespris in 2001. On 7 March 2004, Aukland won the Vasaloppet in Sweden, becoming the second Norwegian to accomplish this feat after 1971 winner Ole Ellefsæter. Urban Lindgren (born 18 April 1973 in Morjärv, Norrbotten) is a Swedish cross-country skier who competed from 1993 to 2002. He earned a silver medal in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 2001 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti, and finished 14th in the 30 km event at those same championships. Patrick Weaver
Patrick Weaver (born May 29, 1969) is an American former cross-country skier. He competed at the 1998 Winter Olympics and the 2002 Winter Olympics. He later became a skiing coach. Biography Weaver was born Frankfurt, Germany in 1969. Growing up in Lenox, Massachusetts, Weaver began to ski when he was seven years old. He worked at Home Depot, taking up a training opportunity scheme, where he was paid as a full-time employee, but was allowed to work part-time in order to train. He studied at the University of New Hampshire for a business degree. Weaver was later inducted into the Hall of Fame at the University. He became the US national champion in cross-country skiing in 1998 and 1999. Weaver competed in seven cross-country skiing events at the 1998 Winter Olympics and the 2002 Winter Olympics, with a best finish of 16th place in the men's 15 kilometre classical event at the 2002 Olympics. Andreas Schlütter (born 17 August 1972) is a German cross-country skier who has been competing since 1993. He won two medals in the 4 × 10 km relay at the Winter Olympics with a silver in 2006 and a bronze in 2002. Schlütter's best individual Olympic finish was fourth in the 50 km event in 2002. Axel Teichmann
Axel Teichmann (born 14 July 1979) is a German cross-country skiing coach and former skier. Background Teichmann started cross-country skiing at the age of ten. He completed his secondary education at Bad Lobenstein and, from 1993, at Oberhof. Since graduation in 1998, he has been aided in his sporting career by the German armed forces as a military athlete. John Bauer (skier)
John William Bauer (born February 6, 1969, in Champlin, Minnesota, United States) is an American cross-country skier. He competed in three Winter Olympics, earning his best finish of 5th in the men's 4 by 10 kilometres relay at the 2002 games. He attended Anoka High School and was active in the concert band and a member of the National Honor Society. In Nordic skiing, Bauer was a two-time state champion (1986 and 1987) and began his post-secondary career at Folkhogskola Ski School in Mora, Sweden (1987-1988) and then attended Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Oregon (1988-1990). As a member of the United States Olympic Ski Team he represented his country in Albertville, France, in 1992; Nagano, Japan, in 1998; and Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2002. Reto Burgermeister (born September 7, 1975) is a Swiss cross-country skier who has competed since 1994. Competing in three Winter Olympics, he finished sixth in the 4 × 10 km relay at Nagano in 1998 overall and ninth in the 15 km at Salt Lake City in 2002. Burgermeister's best finish at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships was tenth in the 30 km event at Val di Fiemme in 2003.
