Crippled Children's Association Of South Australia
Novita is a South Australian disability organisation, providing support, services and equipment to children, teens and young adults living with disability, their families and carers. In August 2019, it was announced that scosa was to merge into Novita. History The Crippled Children's Association of South Australia (CCA) origins lay in the Crippled Children's Committee formed in 1932, an inaugural meeting of the CCA was held the on 13 December 1938 and it was incorporated in 1939. The name was changed to Novita Children's Services in 2004. It originally focused on supporting children with poliomyelitis, expanding to support those with cerebral palsy by 1944, and now works with children with a broad range of needs. With the current emphasis on community based care and deinstitutionalisation, Novita Children's Services stopped providing institutional care at Regency Park in 1993, working with children and families in locally based centres and in community settings. Port Road (and its northern section as Commercial Road through Port Adelaide) is a major road in Adelaide, South Australia connecting the Adelaide city centre with Port Adelaide. It is long, and is designated part of route R1 within central Adelaide, and beyond as route A7. Arthur Ernest William Short (24 October 1888 – 19 July 1949) was a prominent South Australian businessman and city councillor, who died within three weeks of being elected Lord Mayor of Adelaide. Short was born in Maitland, Yorke Peninsula, the only son of Arthur Short, member for Yorke Peninsula in the South Australian House of Assembly from 1893 to 1896. He was founder and managing director of Adelaide paper merchants Woolcott, Short & Co., which had premises off King William Street. Daphne Lorraine Gum MBE, OA (24 January 1916 – 28 February 2017) was an Australian pioneer in the care and education of children with cerebral palsy. Early life and education Daphne Lorraine Gum was born to Cecil and Ruby Gum on 24 January 1916 in the Pinnaroo Hospital; Pinnaroo, South Australia. Her grandfather and father owned farming lands in Pinnaroo. In 1919, she moved with her parents and elder sister Marjorie to the township of Crystal Brook, where Marjorie and Daphne commenced school. Gum's younger siblings Betty Christina ("Chris"), Donald and Denise were born at the Crystal Brook Hospital. In 1927, the family moved to North Unley, a suburb of Adelaide. Russell Frank Ebert (22 June 1949 – 5 November 2021) was an Australian rules footballer and coach. He is considered one of the greatest players in the history of Australian rules football in South Australia. Ebert is the only player to have won four Magarey Medals, which are awarded to the best and fairest player in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). National Disability Insurance Scheme
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a scheme of the Australian Government that funds costs associated with disability. The scheme was legislated in 2013 and went into full operation in 2020. The scheme is administered by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and overseen by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (NDIS Commission). The scheme entitles people with a "permanent and significant" disability (under the age of 65), to full funding for any "reasonable and necessary" support needs related to their disability (subject to certain restrictions). Funding is allocated to the individual, and the individual or their guardian chooses which providers supply the funded goods and services (subject to certain restrictions).
