Creighton–Nebraska Men's Basketball Rivalry
The Creighton–Nebraska men's basketball rivalry is an intrastate college basketball rivalry between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Creighton Bluejays. The two programs represent the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and Creighton University, respectively, located just 50 mi (80 km) apart. Nebraska is a member of the Big Ten Conference and Creighton a member of the Big East Conference. The teams have met annually since 1977, usually in early December. Series history The series began on March 3, 1923, a 46–23 Creighton victory. The first seven games of the series took place sporadically throughout the 1920s and 1930s; no further games were scheduled until the late 1970s. Nebraska Cornhuskers Men's Basketball
The Nebraska Cornhuskers men's basketball team represents the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in the Big Ten Conference of NCAA Division I. The program's first year of competition was 1897, and NU has since compiled an all-time record of 1,535–1,417, with seven NCAA tournament and sixteen NIT appearances. The team has been coached by Fred Hoiberg since 2019. Nebraska did not make the NCAA Tournament until 1986 and remains the only major-conference program to have never won a tournament game. Prior to the creation of the NCAA Tournament, Nebraska was a Midwest power under head coaches R. G. Clapp and Ewald O. The Nebraska Cornhuskers football team competes as part of the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, representing the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in the West Division of the Big Ten. The first year of Creighton Bluejays football was in 1900. They fielded a football team every year from 1900 to 1942. The first team photo is from 1893, but first played in 1900. History Nickname Creighton adopted a Bluejay as its mascot in 1924, when the University's athletic board selected the name from submissions for a contest run by the Omaha Bee newspaper. The Big East Conference is a collegiate athletic conference that competes in NCAA Division I in ten men's sports and twelve women's sports. Headquartered in New York City, the eleven full-member schools are primarily located in Northeast and Midwest metropolitan areas. Creighton Bluejays Men's Basketball
The Creighton Bluejays men's basketball team represents Creighton University of the NCAA Division I college basketball. They currently compete in the Big East Conference having joined the conference following the Big East conference realignment in 2013. The Bluejays play their home games at CHI Health Center Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. Creighton finished sixth nationally in home attendance, averaging 17,048 fans per home game in 2014–15.
