Crater Renaissance Academy of Arts and Sciences is a public high school located in Jackson County, Oregon, United States. It is one of three public high schools in Oregon's School District 6, serving the Southern Oregon communities of Central Point, Gold Hill and Sams Valley. Gold Hill is a city in Jackson County, Oregon, in the United States. As of the 2010 census the population was 1,335. It is along a bend of the Rogue River. History The City's name comes from a nearby hill that was the location of a 19th-century gold discovery, on "Big Bar” on the Rogue River in the early 1850s. Crater High School is a public high school in Central Point, Oregon, United States. Small School Initiative Beginning in the 2007-2008 school year, a program called the Small School Initiative was established in Crater after a monetary grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Meyer Memorial Trust. It divided the Crater campus into four smaller, autonomous schools, each with its own principal and staff members. The small schools movement, also known as the Small Schools Initiative, in the United States of America holds that many high schools are too large and should be reorganized into smaller, autonomous schools of no more than 400 students, and optimally under 200. Schools of Opportunity is a project that aims to recognize public high schools that minimize opportunity gaps with outstanding education. The National Education Policy Center, a non-profit education policy research center, created Schools of Opportunity as a project in 2014. Mission The Schools of Opportunity project gives annual "gold" and "silver" recognition to schools in the United States.
