Henry Crapo (mathematician)
Henry Howland Crapo (; August 12, 1932 – September 3, 2019) was an American-Canadian mathematician who worked in algebraic combinatorics. Over the course of his career, he held positions at several universities and research institutes in Canada and France. He is noted for his work in matroid theory and lattice theory. Education and career Crapo was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1932. He received his Ph.D. in 1964 under the supervision of Gian-Carlo Rota and Kenneth Hoffman. He held academic positions at the University of Waterloo, Université de Montréal, INRIA Rocquencourt, and École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. During his time in Waterloo, Crapo became a Canadian citizen. Crapo is known for his early work in matroid theory, and for related work in lattice theory. Mike Crapo
Michael Dean Crapo ( ; born May 20, 1951) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the senior United States senator from Idaho, a seat he has held since 1999. A member of the Republican Party, Crapo previously served as the U.S. representative for Idaho's 2nd congressional district from 1993 to 1999. Born in Idaho Falls, Crapo is a graduate of Brigham Young University and Harvard Law School. He practiced law in his home city throughout the 1980s, while also maintaining an active role in local Republican politics. His brother Terry Crapo was majority leader in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1968 to 1972 and an influential political figure until his death from leukemia in 1982. After his brother's death, Crapo was elected to the Idaho Senate in 1984. He served as Senate president pro tempore from 1988 to 1992. Terry Crapo
Terry Lavelle Crapo (July 2, 1939 – September 1, 1982) was an American attorney, educator, and Republican Party politician who served in the Idaho House of Representatives for six years, and as majority leader from 1968 to 1972. He had led the legislature as the first state to adopt the Uniform Probate Code. He died from leukemia ten years after retiring from the Idaho House. A practicing attorney in Idaho Falls, Idaho, who became a partner with his firm Holden Kidwell Hahn & Crapo, he also taught estate law at Brigham Young University for several years as a visiting professor. Crapo Park (85 acres, 34 hectares) is a city park with arboretum and botanical garden, alongside the Mississippi River at Parkway Drive, Burlington, Iowa. Those who are not familiar with the park often mispronounce it as "crap-oh" Park, with the correct pronunciation being ( ) Park. It is reputed to be the site where the American flag was first raised on Iowa's soil, by Zebulon Pike in 1805.
