Crankshaft
A crankshaft is a mechanical component used in a piston engine to convert the reciprocating motion into rotational motion. The crankshaft is a rotating shaft containing one or more crankpins, that are driven by the pistons via the connecting rods. The crankpins are also called ''rod bearing journals'', and they rotate within the "big end" of the connecting rods. Most modern crankshafts are located in the engine block. They are made from steel or cast iron, using either a forging, casting or machining process. Design The crankshaft located within the engine block, held in place via main bearings which allow the crankshaft to rotate within the block. The up-down motion of each piston is transferred to the crankshaft via connecting rods. A flywheel is often attached to one end of the crankshaft, in order to smoothen the power delivery and reduce vibration. Cranks was a chain of English wholefood vegetarian restaurants. It was founded and owned by David and Kay Canter and Daphne Swann, and its flagship restaurant was at Marshall Street in the West End of London. History The first Cranks opened at 22 Carnaby Street, London, in 1961. In 1968 there were 16 vegetarian restaurants in London and 18 in the United Kingdom at the time. ''Crank'' is a 2006 American action film written and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (in their directorial debuts) and starring Jason Statham, Amy Smart and Jose Pablo Cantillo. The plot centers on a British hitman based in Los Angeles named Chev Chelios who is poisoned by the mafia and must keep his adrenaline flowing constantly in order to keep himself alive. He does so by various methods including taking drugs, publicly fornicating with his girlfriend, and getting into fights, while he tries to track down the man who poisoned him. The title of the film comes from a slang word for methamphetamine. The film was followed by a sequel titled '' Crank: High Voltage'' in 2009. Plot Los Angeles-based English hitman Chev Chelios works for a crime syndicate led by Don "Carlito" Carlos. ''Crank'' is a novel by Ellen Hopkins published in 2004. It is based loosely on the real life addictions of the author's daughter to crystal meth. The book is required reading in "many high schools, as well as many drug and drug court programs." However, the book has been banned in many locations due to complaints that the book's depictions of drug use, adult language, and sexual themes are inappropriate for some readers. Plot ''Crank'' takes place the summer before and during the protagonist Kristina's junior year of high school. She is a straight-A honor roll student and decides to visit her father for three weeks. Her father is rarely home, leaving her a lot of time alone. Kristina meets a boy named Adam in Albuquerque, where she is staying with her father. A crank is an arm attached at a right angle to a rotating shaft by which circular motion is imparted to or received from the shaft. When combined with a connecting rod, it can be used to convert circular motion into reciprocating motion, or vice versa. Cranks, Kentucky
Cranks is an unincorporated community in southeastern Harlan County, Kentucky, United States, near the Virginia state line. Elevation ranges from above sea level. U.S. Route 421 is the main route of travel through this community. Cranks is the home of Cranks Creek Lake on the Martins Fork of the Cumberland River and is used for recreation purposes. Construction was completed in 1963. It has a normal surface area of . Species present in the lake include rainbow trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. Boating is allowed, but idle speed only on boats over 10 horsepower. Cranks Creek is also home to the Cranks Creek Wildlife Management Area and the Stone Mountain Wildlife Management Area. ''Crank'' is the sixth studio album by Australian rock group Hoodoo Gurus. It was released in February 1994 and peaked at number 2 on the ARIA charts. The album was produced by Ed Stasium (Ramones, Living Colour, The Smithereens), who had mixed Hoodoo Gurus previous studio album, '' Kinky'' in 1991. It was the band's first release on Zoo Records. EMI re-released the album on 6 February 2005 with an additional nine bonus tracks, a fold out poster and liner notes by Andy Strachan (The Living End). One of the bonus tracks is "Television Addict" which was originally performed by Perth punk band The Victims in 1977 with Gurus' Dave Faulkner known as Dave Flick. ''Crank'' is the fourth studio album released by Scottish rock band the Almighty. Two singles, "Jonestown Mind" and "Wrench", were released from the album in multiple parts in the United Kingdom. Music videos were made for both singles. ''Crank'' peaked at #15 in the UK albums chart. The cover artwork, showing an angel throwing a Molotov cocktail at a planet (earth) made out of money was created by noted British artist and anarchist Jamie Reid, who also designed the famous ransom note cover for the Sex Pistols album, ''Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols''. The album was remastered and re-released only in Japan under the Victor Entertainment label including all the studio b-sides from singles released from the album.
