Courtney Jones (figure Skater)
Courtney John Lyndhurst Jones, (born 30 April 1933) is a British former ice dancer. With partner June Markham, he was the 1957 and 1958 World champion and European champion. With partner Doreen Denny, he is the 1959 and 1960 World champion and 1959–61 European champion. Jones and Peri Horne created the Starlight Waltz and the Silver Samba compulsory dances. He was awarded the OBE in 1980 for services to ice skating. He is a member of the International Skating Union Council and is a former president of the National Ice Skating Association. Doreen Denny
Doreen Denny (born 28 January 1941) is a British retired ice dancer. With partner Courtney Jones, she is the 1959 & 1960 World champion and 1959-1961 European champion. After the 1961 season, Denny and Jones announced their retirement from competitive skating, as Denny planned to marry Italian dance champion Gianfranco Canepa and move to the Continent. Following her retirement from competitive skating, she became a coach. She coached at the Broadmoor Skating Club and among her students were Colleen O'Connor Colleen M. O'Connor (born December 17, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois) is an American former ice dancer. Figure skaters compete in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Not all disciplines have been held in every year due to a lack of participants. British Ice Skating (formerly the National Ice Skating Association) is the national governing body of ice skating within the United Kingdom. Formed in 1879, it is responsible for overseeing all disciplines of ice skating: figure skating (singles, pairs and ice dance); synchronised skating; and speed skating (including short track). Compulsory Dance
The compulsory dance (CD), now called the pattern dance, is a part of the figure skating segment of ice dance competitions in which all the competing couples perform the same standardized steps and holds to the music of a specified tempo and genre. One or more compulsory dances were usually skated as the first phase of ice dancing competitions. The 2009–10 season was the final season in which the segment was included in International Skating Union (ISU) junior and senior level competition. In June 2010, the ISU replaced the name "compulsory dance" with "pattern dance" for ice dance, and merged it into the short dance (SD) beginning in the 2010–11 figure skating season.
