The Court of Appeal ( ms, Mahkamah Rayuan Malaysia) is an appellate court of the judiciary system in Malaysia. It is the second highest court in the hierarchy below the Federal Court. This court was created in 1994 as part of reforms made to the judiciary to create a second tier appellate court after the Privy Council appeals to the United Kingdom was abolished in 1985. The court is headed by the President of the Court of Appeal of Malaysia, who is the second most senior post in Malaysian judiciary after the Chief Justice of Malaysia. On 5 December 2019, Rohana Yusuf was sworn in by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to replace Ahmad Maarop, who retired having reached his mandatory retirement age. The Palace of Justice ( ms, Istana Kehakiman, Jawi: ) houses the Malaysian Court of Appeal and Federal Court, which moved to Putrajaya from the Sultan Abdul Samad Building in Kuala Lumpur in 2003. History Due to the need for a proper office of the head of the judicial system in Malaysia, a location within the Precinct 3 of Putrajaya was identified for this purpose. aQidea Architect was commissioned to design the building after finishing the nearby Prime Minister's Office. The building houses two Federal Courts, six Courts of Appeal, the Chief Registrar's Office, two registries for the Federal Court, the Court of Appeal (as required under Articles 121(1B) and 121(2)), a conference hall, a library, and a museum. The complex has an intricate network of passages which segregate the judges, witnesses, public, and the accused leading to the courts from the car park or area of arrival. Ahmad Maarop
Tan Sri Dato' Sri Ahmad bin Haji Maarop (born 25 May 1953) is a Malaysian jurist and lawyer who served as the tenth President of the Court of Appeal of Malaysia (PCA). Early life and education Maarop was born in , a village in the historical state of Malacca. He underwent his primary school education at Jasin National Primary School, Alor Gajah National Primary School and finally Bukit Beruang National Primary School, all in his home state. Maarop then attended the Dato' Abdul Razak School, a premier boarding school in Sungai Gadut, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. Tun Mohamed Raus bin Sharif ( ms, محمد روس بن شريف, label= Jawi, script=arab, italic=unset; born 4 February 1951) is a retired Malaysian lawyer who served as the eighth Chief Justice of Malaysia from 1 April 2017 until 31 July 2018. Zaki Mohamed Azmi
Tun Zaki bin Tun Azmi ( ms, زكي بن عزمي, label= Jawi, script=arab, italic=unset; born 12 September 1945) is a Malaysian barrister who served as the sixth Chief Justice of Malaysia. He was appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King of Malaysia) on 21 October 2008 after his predecessor, Abdul Hamid Mohamad, retired from office. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong (, Jawi: ), also known as the Supreme Head of the Federation, the Paramount Ruler or simply as the Agong, and unofficially as the King of Malaysia, is the constitutional monarch and head of state of Malaysia.
