Coup Sauvage And The Snips
Coup Sauvage and the Snips is a disco punk band from the greater Washington, D. C. area. The six member band consists of Crystal Sauvage (background vocals), Elizabeth Sauvage (bass), Jason Sauvage (keyboard), Kristina Sauvage (lead vocals), Maegan Sauvage (DJ), and Rain Sauvage (background vocals). Inspired by ball culture, they style themselves from the "Haus of Sauvage" in Brentwood, Maryland and all have the surname Sauvage. They describe their sound as "inspired by 60s soul, 70s European variety shows, 80s ''Solid Gold'' dancers, and 90s warehouse parties" They released their debut single, "Sneaks", in 2014. "Don't Touch My Hair" is the ninth track on American singer and songwriter Solange Knowles' third studio album, ''A Seat at the Table''. It was released by Saint Records and Columbia Records on September 30, 2016 with its music video being released the following week. It was written by Knowles and Sampha Sisay. Background and writing Knowles started creating the album four years ago and has been creating and editing tracks, including "Don't Touch My Hair", since its release. George Floyd Protests
The George Floyd protests were a series of protests and civil unrest against police brutality and racism that began in Minneapolis on May 26, 2020, and largely took place during 2020. The civil unrest and protests began as part of international reactions to the murder of George Floyd, a 46-year-old African American man who was murdered during an arrest after Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis Police Department officer, knelt on Floyd's neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds as three other officers looked on and prevented passers-by from intervening. Chauvin and the other three officers involved were later arrested. In April 2021, Chauvin was found guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. Sister Polygon Records was an independent record label run by the band Priests. The label was based in Washington, DC, and released music by Priests, Downtown Boys, Pinkwash, Knife Wife, and Shady Hawkins. History Priests created the label in 2012 in order to release their first single, the "Radiation/Personal Planes" 7-inch. The second release was a cassette of the New York feminist punk band Shady Hawkins' 2013 album ''Dead To Me''. The members of Priests ran the label out of their houses and apartments. The label was interested in offering a platform to artists who might not have another way to get their music out. On August 9, 2014, 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis.
