County Of Vermilion River
The County of Vermilion River is a municipal district located in the eastern part of central Alberta, Canada in Census Division No. 10. The municipal district was formerly named the County of Vermilion River No. 24 prior to an official name change that became effective on September 13, 2006. The administrative offices of the County of Vermilion River are located at Kitscoty. The Vermilion River flows through the County and is the namesake of the region. The Yellowhead Highway and Buffalo Trail are major transportation routes in the County. Several communities in the County such as Vermilion and Kitscoty are serviced by CN Rail. A municipal district (MD) is the most common form of all rural municipality statuses used in the Canadian province of Alberta. Alberta's municipal districts, most of which are branded as a county (e.g. Yellowhead County, County of Newell, etc.), are predominantly rural areas that may include either farmland, Crown land or a combination of both depending on their geographic location. Vermilion River (Alberta)
The Vermilion River is a tributary of the North Saskatchewan River in east-central Alberta, Canada. Its lower course flows through the County of Vermilion River, which is named after this river. It has been said that this river got its name from the distinctive red clay on the edge of the river banks. Course The Vermilion River is formed from spring runoff and rainfall south of the town of Vegreville. It flows northeast through Vegreville, then continues in that direction until the town of Two Hills, where it turns southeast. At Vermilion, a reservoir is created by a dam on the river. After that, the river turns again to the northeast. It empties into the North Saskatchewan River 16 km north of Marwayne. Vermilion River has a length of 255 km. Kitscoty
Kitscoty is a village located in central Alberta, Canada. Situated at the junction of Highway 16 (Yellowhead Highway) and Highway 897 (the link to Cold Lake), the village is located approximately midway between Edmonton and Saskatoon ( and respectively).
