County Of Stanley (South Australia)
The County of Stanley is one of the 49 cadastral counties of South Australia. It was proclaimed by Governor George Grey and named for Edward Stanley, Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1841 to 1845, who, in 1842, had advocated financial support for South Australia. It is roughly bounded by the Wakefield River in the south, the approximate path of the Barrier Highway in the east, latitude 33°28' S in the north and longitudes 138°08' to 138°15' E in the west. Penwortham, South Australia
Penwortham () is a small town in the Clare Valley, South Australia, along the Horrocks Highway, approximately 10 kilometres south of Clare and 14 kilometres north of Auburn. Geography Penwortham is surrounded by natural eucalyptus bushland and a section of the Skilly Hills, which in turn forms part of the Mount Lofty Ranges. There are two significant peaks nearby, Mount Oakden named after John Oakden, and Mount Horrocks, named after John Horrocks. The Hill River rises about 3 kilometres east of Penwortham. A hundred is an administrative division that is geographically part of a larger region. Hundred Of Hall
The Hundred of Hall is the cadastral unit of hundred on the northern Adelaide Plains centred on the town of Halbury. It is one of the 16 hundreds of the County of Stanley. It was named in 1860 after parliamentarian George Hall (1851-1867). The main localities in the hundred are Halbury and Hoyleton with parts of Balaklava, Stow, Watchman and Kybunga, also within the hundred bounds. Local government On 14 November 1878, the District Council of Hall was established, bringing local government to the hundred, following petitioning by resident landowners. The five wards of Hall council were Hoyleton, Halbury, Wakefield, Woodlands and Watchman's Plains. The Watchman's Plains ward was moved to the District Council of Balaklava in 1911, the Halbury and Wakefield wards to the same in 1935, and the Hoyleton and Woodlands wards to the District Council of Blyth also in 1935. Hundred Of Stow
The Hundred of Stow is the cadastral unit of hundred on the northern Adelaide Plains. It is one of the 16 hundreds of the County of Stanley. It was named in 1867 by Governor Dominick Daly after Randolph Isham Stow (1828–1878), twice Attorney-General of South Australia. Parts of the localities of Mount Templeton, Stow, Whitwarta, Watchman and Balaklava are within the hundred. Local government On 14 November 1878, the entire Hundred of Stow was annexed to the District Council of Balaklava along with an eastern strip of the Hundred of Goyder, following petitioning by resident landowners. Hundred Of Goyder
The Hundred of Goyder is the cadastral unit of hundred on the northern Adelaide Plains centred on the locality of Goyder. It is one of the 16 hundreds of the County of Stanley. It was named in 1862 by Governor Dominick Daly after George Goyder, famed South Australian surveyor. In addition to the localities of Goyder and Beaufort, most of Nantawarra lies within the Hundred of Goyder. The portions of Port Wakefield and Bowmans north of the Wakefield River are also inside the hundred, and small parts of the localities of South Hummocks and Mount Templeton cross the western and eastern of boundaries of the hundred, respectively. Hundred Of Blyth (South Australia)
The Hundred of Blyth is a cadastral unit of hundred on the northern Adelaide Plains of South Australia centred on the township of Blyth. It is one of the 16 hundreds of the County of Stanley. It was named in 1860 by Governor Richard MacDonnell after Arthur Blyth who arrived in South Australia as a teenager in 1839 and went on to become a local businessman, parliamentarian and thrice the premier of South Australia. Apart from the town of Blyth the locality of Kybunga is also in the hundred, and the historic settlement of Bowillia is on the eastern boundary of the hundred. The Hundred of Boucaut is a cadastral unit of hundred located in the Mid North of South Australia. It is one of the 16 hundreds of the County of Stanley. It was named in 1867 by Governor Dominick Daly after parliamentarian James Boucaut. The Hundred of Boucaut spans the western half of the town of Brinkworth, most of Condowie, and the eastern halves of Burnsfield and Lake View. Mount Lofty Ranges
The Mount Lofty Ranges are a range of mountains in the Australian state of South Australia which for a small part of its length borders the east of Adelaide. The part of the range in the vicinity of Adelaide is called the Adelaide Hills and defines the eastern border of the Adelaide Plains. Location and description The Mount Lofty Ranges stretch from the southernmost point of the Fleurieu Peninsula at Cape Jervis northwards for over before petering out north of Peterborough. In the vicinity of Adelaide, they separate the Adelaide Plains from the extensive plains that surround the Murray River and stretch eastwards to Victoria.
