The Council of Schools and Services for the Blind (COSB) is a consortium of specialized schools in Canada and the United States whose major goal is improving the quality of services to children who are blind and visually impaired. COSB is a membership organization of special purpose schools for students who are blind or visually impaired, including those with multiple disabilities. Schools and classrooms specialized approaches to instruction in small group settings ensure that the curriculum is fully accessible to each individual student. The Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind (CSDB) is a K-12 residential school, located on Knob Hill, east of downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado, near the famous laboratory of Nikola Tesla. The Kentucky School for the Blind is an educational facility for blind and visually impaired students from Kentucky who are aged up to 21. Bryce McLellan Patten founded the Kentucky Institution for the Education of the Blind in 1839 in Louisville, Kentucky. In 1842, it was chartered as the Kentucky Institution for the Blind by the state legislature as the third state-supported school for the blind established in the United States. The Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School was a state-operated school for the blind. It was replaced by the Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
