Council Of European National Top Level Domain Registries
The Council of European National Top-Level Domain Registries (CENTR) is an organization established to act as a peak body of top-level domain name registries. The organisation was formed in 1998, created as a project of the RIPE Top-level Domain Working Group. As the largest organisation of its kind, it is often called upon to give the view of country-code registries to organisations such as ICANN, the European Commission, the United Nations and the International Telecommunication Union. Internally, it is responsible for information sharing between registries, as well as identifying best practices for the industry. Nominet UK
Nominet UK is currently delegated by IANA to be the manager of the .uk domain name. Nominet directly manages registrations directly under .uk, and some of the second level domains .co.uk, .org.uk, .sch.uk, .me.uk, .net.uk, .ltd.uk and .plc.uk. Nominet also manages the .wales and .cymru domains. As of February 2021, the .uk register held 10,922,477 .uk domain names. This represents a year on year downward trend, when compared to February 2020, this is mainly due to lapsing of the recently launched .uk domain names. Nominet was founded by Dr. Willie Black and five others on 14 May 1996 when its predecessor, the "Naming Committee" was unable to deal with the volume of registrations then being sought under the .uk domain. DENIC eG is the manager of the .de domain, the country-code top-level domain for Germany. It was founded in 1996 and is organised as a non-regulated not-for-profit cooperative. IE Domain Registry
The .'IE'' is the domain name registry for the .ie country code top-level domain. Their work includes protecting, supporting and promoting the web presence of all .ie domain names. They administer and manage the .ie namespace in the public interest. Founded in 1991, they spun out of UCD and became a private company in July 2000. While still operating as an independent private company, they liaise with government departments, governing bodies, trade associations as required and abide by internet best practice principles.
