Govone
Govone (Gon or Govon ) is an Italian town of 2,294 inhabitants in the province of Cuneo in Piedmont. It is part of the historical region of Roero and is located on the border with the province of Asti, about halfway between the cities of Alba and Asti. The site has been inhabited since Roman times, as evidenced by numerous findings, and is mentioned in early medieval documents. Formerly a bishopric fief, then passed to the property of the Solaro family of Asti, it was later a resort for the House of Savoy in the early decades of the nineteenth century. It is now known above all for its castle, in which the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who has just entered the service of Count Ottavio Solaro, stayed when he was just eighteen years old (year 1730). Economy The economy of the area is mainly agricultural, with a particular emphasis to the cultivation of vines on the hillsides - red wines barbera, bonarda, dolcetto, nebbiolo and arneis white wine, as well as hazelnut planta ...

Freisa D'Asti
Freisa is a red Italian wine grape variety grown in the Piedmont region of north-west Italy, primarily in Monferrato and in the Langhe, but also further north in the provinces of Turin and Biella. Freisa is a vigorous and productive vine whose round, blue-black grapes are harvested in early October. The three-lobed leaves are relatively small and the bunches are elongated in form. By the 1880s it had become one of the major Piedmontese grapes, and in that period its cultivation was stimulated by the vine’s resistance to the downy mildew caused by the Plasmopara viticola fungus. Wines made from the Freisa grape are red and usually somewhat sweet and lightly sparkling, or foaming. Still and fully sparkling versions are also produced, however, as are dry and more decidedly sweet styles. In the Canavese there is also a rosé which can be made primarily from Freisa according to ''Denominazione di origine controllata'' (DOC) regulations. History Plantings of Freisa in the Piedmont reg ...

Monferrato Dolcetto
Montferrat (, ; it, Monferrato ; pms, Monfrà , locally ; la, Mons Ferratus) is part of the region of Piedmont in northern Italy. It comprises roughly (and its extent has varied over time) the modern provinces of Alessandria and Asti. Montferrat is one of the most important wine districts of Italy. It also has a strong literary tradition, including the 18th century Asti-born poet and dramatist Vittorio Alfieri and the Alessandrian Umberto Eco. The territory is cut in two by the river Tanaro. The northern part (the Basso Monferrato, "Low Montferrat"), which lies between that river and the Po, is an area of rolling hills and plains. The southern part (the Alto Monferrato, "High Montferrat") rises from the banks of the Tanaro into the mountains of the Apennines and the water divide between Piedmont and Liguria. On 22 June 2014, Montferrat was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. History Originally a county, it was elevated to a margravate of the Holy Roman Empire under ...

Barbera Del Monferrato
Barbera is a red Italian wine grape variety that, as of 2000, was the third most-planted red grape variety in Italy (after Sangiovese and Montepulciano). It produces good yields and is known for deep color, full body, low tannins and high levels of acidity.J. Robinson (ed) ''The Oxford Companion to Wine'' Third Edition pg 62-63 Oxford University Press 2006 Century-old vines still exist in many regional vineyards and allow for the production of long-aging, robust red wines with intense fruit and enhanced tannic content. The best known appellation is the DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) Barbera d'Asti in the Piedmont region: the highest-quality Nizza DOCG wines are produced within a sub-zone of the Barbera d'Asti production area. When young, the wines offer a very intense aroma of fresh red cherries and blackberries. In the lightest versions notes of cherries, raspberries and blueberries and with notes of blackberry and black cherries in wines made of more ...
