Cosmos (Rogério Skylab Album)
''Cosmos'' is the sixteenth studio album by the Brazilian musician Rogério Skylab. The first part of a "trilogy of five" entitled the "''Trilogia do Cosmos''", it was released on October 2, 2020 and is available for free download on the musician's official website and for streaming. Skylab originally announced the trilogy on his official Facebook page on August 19, 2020, claiming that its first installment would be released "in the next month or so"; four months prior, on March 19, the single "À Sombra de um Horizonte" came out as a teaser. In a later Facebook post, he elaborated that the trilogy was conceived as "an homage to three of the greatest Brazilian composers: Moacir Santos, Eumir Deodato and Hermeto Pascoal"; thus being, it follows a minimalistic sonority "based around piano, acoustic bass and drums" inspired by ''samba'', ''bossa nova'' and MPB, and heavily reminiscent of his 2012–15 ''Trilogia dos Carnavais''. Rogério Tolomei Teixeira (born September 2, 1956), better known by his stage name Rogério Skylab, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, lyricist, classical guitarist, poet, essayist, record producer, actor and former television presenter. His unique musical style is characterized by minimalism and eclecticism, and his lyrics are permeated by acerbic allusions to popular culture, pessimism, scatology, nihilism and black comedy (he has, however, always denied that his songs have humorous purposes). Samba
Samba (), also known as samba urbano carioca (''urban Carioca samba'') or simply samba carioca (''Carioca samba''), is a Brazilian music genre that originated in the Afro-Brazilian communities of Rio de Janeiro in the early 20th century. Having its roots in Brazilian folk traditions, especially those linked to the primitive rural samba of the colonial and imperial periods, it is considered one of the most important cultural phenomena in Brazil and one of the country's symbols. ''Melinis minutiflora'', commonly known as molasses grass, is a species of grass. It is a perennial grass native to Africa, where it occurs in disjunct populations (an arc from central Angola to Cameroon in western central africa, the areas around Ruwenzori Mountains and Mount Kenya in eastern Africa. Its seeds are dispersed by wind. Molasses grass usually grows to be thirty to sixty inches tall, and it forms mats when its long, slender stems lay on top of each other in layers up to four feet deep. ''Rogério Skylab & Orquestra Zé Felipe'' ( Portuguese for "''Rogério Skylab & the Zé Felipe Orchestra''") is a collaborative album between Brazilian musicians Rogério Skylab and Zé Felipe, a former bassist of now-defunct experimental rock act Zumbi do Mato. Self-released in 2009, it is the second collaboration between Skylab and Felipe (the first being Skylab's 2007 release '' Skylab VII'', in which Felipe co-authored a handful of songs). Originally intended as a full-fledged collaboration between Skylab and Zumbi do Mato, after a series of creative divergences only Zé Felipe remained as collaborator.
