Corruption In The Suvarnabhumi Airport Project
Allegations of corruption during the development of Suvarnabhumi Airport, the newest international airport serving Bangkok, Thailand, have been made since the project's inception. These allegations started in the 1970s, when land for the airport was purchased during the dictatorship of Thanom Kittikachorn, and extended to the government of Thaksin Shinawatra, during which most of the construction occurred. ''The Nation'', a Thai English-language daily, published several reports alleging corruption in the purchase of x-ray baggage scanning devices for the airport. The resulting scandal delayed the opening of the airport by a year and allowed the opposition Democrat Party to initiate a 20-hour no-confidence censure debate that forced Thaksin to remove close supporter Suriya Jungrungreangkit from his position of Transport Minister. Political corruption is the use of powers by government officials or their network contacts for illegitimate private gain. Rut (roads)
A rut is a depression or groove worn into a road or path by the travel of wheels or skis. Ruts can be formed by wear, as from studded snow tires common in cold climate areas, or they can form through the deformation of the asphalt concrete, pavement or subbase material. In modern roads the main cause is heavily loaded trucks. These heavy loaded trucks imprint their tire impressions on roads over time, causing ruts. Rut is a common pavement distress and is often used in pavement performance modeling. Ruts prevent rainwater from flowing to the side of the road into ditches or gutters. Mom Rajawongse Pridiyathorn Devakula ( th, ม.ร.ว.ปรีดิยาธร เทวกุล; ; ; born 15 July 1947) is a Thai economist. He was the Governor of the Bank of Thailand from 2001 to 2006. Following the 2006 Thai coup d'état he served as minister of finance and deputy prime minister in the interim civilian government led by Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont. A ''rai'' ( th, ไร่, ) is a unit of area equal to 1,600 square metres (16 ares, 0.16 hectares, 0.3954 acres), and is used in measuring land area for a cadastre or cadastral map. Its current size is precisely derived from the metre, but is neither part of nor recognized by the modern metric system, the International System (SI). Nakhon Suvarnabhumi Province
Nakhon Suvarnabhumi ( th, นครสุวรรณภูมิ) was a proposed new province of Thailand in southeast Bangkok around Suvarnabhumi Airport. It was planned to include the districts Lat Krabang and Prawet of Bangkok and Bang Sao Thong and Bang Phli of Samut Prakan Province, an area of 521 km2 with about 462,000 residents. The proposal was announced in October 2005, with a draft bill approved by the cabinet in June 2006. According to the bill, for the first four years the province would be run by a governor appointed by the Interior Ministry and supervised by a 30 member administrative board chaired by the prime minister. After four years the administrative board would be dissolved, but the final administrative structure of the province was never set.
