Correne Bredin
Correne (Bredin) Taves (born February 11, 1980) was a member of the Canadian National women's Under 22 team from 1999 to 2001, and a member of the Canadian National women's senior team from 2001 to 2007. Twice, she was an alternate to the Canadian Olympic women's ice hockey team (2002 and 2006, respectively). Playing career Bredin competed for many years in the Western Women's Hockey League. The first team she competed with was the Edmonton Chimos from 1996 to 1998. In 1997, she was part of the Chimos squad that claimed the Canadian National women's ice hockey championship. She would help the Calgary Oval X-Treme claim several championships, including the 2004 NWHL, 2005 and 2007 WWHL, and 2007 Canadian national championships. Forward (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a forward is a player, and a position on the ice, whose primary responsibility is to score and assist goals. Generally, the forwards try to stay in three different lanes of the ice going from goal to goal. It is not mandatory, however, to stay in a lane. Staying in a lane aids in forming the common offensive strategy known as a triangle. One forward obtains the puck and then the forwards pass it between themselves making the goalie move side to side. This strategy opens up the net for scoring opportunities. This strategy allows for a constant flow of the play, attempting to maintain the control of play by one team in the offensive zone. The forwards can pass to the defence players playing at the blue line, thus freeing up the play and allowing either a shot from the point (blue line position where the defence stands) or a pass back to the offence. Calgary Oval X-Treme
The Calgary Oval X-Treme were a professional women's ice hockey team in the Western Women's Hockey League (WWHL). The team played its home games at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Oval X-Treme were a member of the National Women's Hockey League for two seasons before breaking away to help form the WWHL in 2004. History The Oval X-Treme were founded in 1995 as an amateur team for women's hockey players in Calgary, quickly developing a heated rivalry with their northern counterparts, the Edmonton Chimos. In 2002, the Oval X-Treme were approached, along with the Chimos, to join the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL). The two teams joined the Vancouver Griffins to form the West division of the NWHL. The Edmonton Chimos were a professional women's ice hockey team in the Western Women's Hockey League (WWHL). The team played its home games at River Cree Twin Arenas in Edmonton, Canada. The Owner was Arlan Maschmayer. History The Chimos were founded in 1973 following ads looking for women in the Edmonton area who wanted to play hockey. By the 1980s, they had become the dominant women's team in Alberta, capturing every Alberta provincial championship, except for one, from 1982-1997. Representing Alberta at the Esso Canadian national championships 16 times in their history, the Chimos have captured the National title four times: 1984, 1985, 1992 and 1997.
