Corinth ( ; el, Κόρινθος, Kórinthos, ) is the successor to an ancient city, and is a former municipality in Corinthia, Peloponnese, which is located in south-central Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, it has been part of the municipality of Corinth, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. It is the capital of Corinthia. Corinto is a Brazilian municipality in the northeast of the state of Minas Gerais. Its population was 23,668 living in a total area of 2,524 km2. The city belongs to the statistical Mesoregion (Brazil), mesoregion of Central Mineira and to the statistical Microregion (Brazil), microregion of Curvelo. History Early years The town of Corinto was founded in 1849. It first came into prominence as a port in 1863, due to its spacious and sheltered harbour.
