"Corde della mia chitarra" ("Strings of my guitar") is an Italian song written by , composed by , and performed by Nunzio Gallo and Claudio Villa. The song is the winner of the Italian national Sanremo Music Festival 1957 where it was performed twice by the two singers and the in the Eurovision Song Contest 1957. Both original recordings of the song are ranked among the top 100 most successful songs in Italy in 1957. Lyrics and melody With live guitar accompaniment provided by Piero Gozo for Nunzio Gallo's version as seen in the Eurovision contest, and with a vocal ranging between light and classical opera styles, the song is a ballad in the ''chanson'' style as well as the opera tones popular in Italy and Europe in the 1950s. Gallo sings of his mixed feelings at seeing a former lover and realising that she is no longer interested in him. Nunzio Gallo
Nunzio Gallo (25 March 1928 – 22 February 2008) was an Italian singer. He was born in Naples and represented his country in the 1957 Eurovision Song Contest, coming 6th. The song he performed, "Corde Della Mia Chitarra", is famous for being the longest song ever played for Eurovision at 5:09 before the new rules came into place. Gallo was also an actor appearing in over 20 films. Gallo suffered severe brain haemorrhage in September 2007 from which he never fully recovered. He died on 22 February 2008 in Telese Terme. "Nel blu, dipinto di blu" (; 'In the blue ky s I waspainted blue' or 'In the blue-painted blue ky), popularly known as "Volare" (; 'To fly'), is a song originally recorded by Italian singer-songwriter Domenico Modugno. Written by Modugno and Franco Migliacci, it was released as a single on 1 February 1958. The song spent five non-consecutive weeks atop the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in August and September 1958, and subsequently became ''Billboard'''s number-one single for the year. In 1959, at the 1st Annual Grammy Awards, Modugno's recording became the first ever Grammy winner for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The Eurovision Song Contest 1958 was the third edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (NTS), the contest, originally known as the (English: Grand Prix of the Eurovision Song Contest 1958) was held on Wednesday 12 March 1958 at the AVRO Studios in Hilversum, the Netherlands and hosted by Dutch television presenter Hannie Lips. Armando Trovajoli (also Trovaioli, 2 September 1917 – 28 February 2013) was an Italian film composer and pianist with over 300 credits as composer and/or conductor, many of them jazz scores for exploitation films of the Commedia all'italiana genre. He collaborated with Vittorio De Sica on a number of projects, including one segment of ''Boccaccio '70''. Patricia Bredin (born 14 February 1935) is an English actress and one-time singer, who is best known as the first representative of the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest. She took part in the 1957 contest, held in Frankfurt and finished in seventh place out of ten entries with the song "All", the first ever song sung in English at Eurovision. At 1:52, "All" was for a long time the shortest performance in the history of the contest. The record was broken in 2015 when Finland's Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät sang "Aina mun pitää", which was only 1:27 long. Career Bredin took the part of Molly, the island girl, in the original cast of the musical ''Free as Air'' in 1957. In 1959, she starred in the British comedy film ''Left Right and Centre'' with Ian Carmichael.
