Elizabeth Copes
Elizabeth Carina Copes (born October 4, 1976, in La Plata) is an Argentine judoka, who competed in the women's middleweight category. She held a 2002 Argentine senior title for her own division, picked up a total of thirteen medals in her career, and also represented her nation Argentina at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Copes qualified for the Argentine squad in the women's middleweight class (70 kg) at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, by placing second and receiving a berth from the Pan American Championships in Margarita Island, Venezuela. She overwhelmed Greece's Alexia Kourtelesi in front of the massive home crowd for a victory in the opening match, before falling short to Dutch judoka and eventual silver medalist Edith Bosch, who scored an ippon and tightly wrapped her with an uchi mata makikomi fashion at one minute and nine seconds. Erik Copes
Erik Copes (born January 29, 1993) is an American professional basketball player for Bashkimi of the Kosovo Superleague. Copes played four years of college basketball with the George Mason Patriots but left midway through his senior season for personal reasons. He attended Imhotep Institute Charter High School and helped his team win three consecutive Philadelphia Public League (PPL) titles. High school career Copes attended Imhotep Institute Charter High School, where he was a member of the Panthers' varsity basketball team for four years. He closed out his sophomore season in 2009 by bringing Imhotep its third PPL Class AA title in four years. Juan Carlos Copes
Juan Carlos Copes (31 May 1931 – 16 January 2021) was an Argentine tango dancer, choreographer, and performer. He started dancing with Maria Nieves when he was 17 and she 14, and the pair later married. Copes and Nieves played a leading role in the renaissance in Tango dancing from the 1970s and, particularly, in Argentine Tango following the 1983 restoration of democracy in that country. Copes was the first to create choreographed tango stage shows and also worked on seven films. Later in his career he partnered with his daughter, Johana, from his second marriage. Parzival Copes
Parzival Copes, (22 January 1924 – 8 September 2017) was a Canadian economist with a particular interest in regional science and specialization in fisheries economics and management. Born in Nakusp, British Columbia, he moved with his family to the Netherlands in 1933 and was educated at Vierde Vijfjarige H.B.S. in Amsterdam from 1936 to 1941. In 1942, he became active in 'underground' activities against the German occupation and in 1944 joined a Dutch resistance army unit. Later that year, he was arrested and spent time in prison and a penal labour camp Erika at Ommen. In April 1945, he escaped from a prison convoy and met up with the advancing Canadian Army, where he was employed in uniform as an interpreter. After spending a year with the British military government in Germany, he returned to Canada, and enrolled at the University of British Columbia, where he also joined the Canadian Officers Training Corps in 1946.
