Copaifera Pubiflora
''Copaifera'' is a genus of tropical plants in the legume family Fabaceae. The scientific name means "copal-bearer" (or more accurately, ''copaiba''-bearer), since economically important resins and essential oils can be acquired from them. They are also important for production of biodiesel and wood, especially ''Copaifera langsdorffii''. Other species are threatened, mainly by deforestation. Oil extracts from the genus are of particular interest as a source of antimycobacterial agents. Notable species *''Copaifera epunctata'' *'' Copaifera guyanensis'' *''Copaifera langsdorffii'' – Diesel tree, kerosene tree, kupa'y, cabismo, copaúva *''Copaifera martii'' *''Copaifera multijuga'' *''Copaifera officinalis'' *''Copaifera panamensis'' – Cabimo *''Copaifera reticulata'' *''Copaifera salikounda'' *''Copaifera trapezifolia'' *''Copaifera cearensis'' *''Copaifera jacquinii'' *''Copaifera coriacea'' See also *Copaene Copaene, or more precisely, α-copaene, is the common (or tr ... Copaifera Officinalis
''Copaifera officinalis'', the copaiba balsam, is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae, native to Bolivia, Brazil, and Venezuela. It has been introduced to Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Sierra Leone, India, and Sri Lanka. Like other members of its genus, its trunks are tapped for its oleoresin, sometimes termed balsam of copaiba or, when refined, copaiba oil, which has industrial, artisanal, and medicinal purposes. Its oleoresin exhibits better bactericidal activity against common pathogens than that of ''Copaifera langsdorffii''. References officinalis ''Officinalis'', or ''officinale'', is a Medieval Latin epithet denoting organisms—mainly plants—with uses in medicine, herbalism and cookery. It commonly occurs as a specific epithet, the second term of a two-part botanical name. ''Officinali ... Copaene
Copaene, or more precisely, α-copaene, is the common (or trivial) chemical name of an oily liquid hydrocarbon that is found in a number of essential oil-producing plants. The name is derived from that of the resin-producing tropical copaiba tree, ''Copaifera langsdorffii'', from which the compound was first isolated in 1914. Its structure, including the chirality, was determined in 1963. The double-bond isomer with an exocyclic- methylene group, β-copaene, was first reported in 1967. Chemically, the copaenes are tricyclic sesquiterpenes. The molecules are chiral, and the α-copaene enantiomer most commonly found in higher plants exhibits a negative optical rotation of about −6°. The rare (+)-α-copaene is also found in small amounts in some plants. It is of economic significance because it is strongly attracting to an agricultural pest, the Mediterranean fruit fly ''Ceratitis capitata ''Ceratitis capitata'', commonly known as the Mediterranean fruit fly or medfly, is a yel ... Copaifera Salikounda
''Copaifera salikounda'' is a species of legume in the family Fabaceae. It is found in Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. It is threatened by habitat loss. Copafera is an alternative spelling that was adopted by American guitar manufacturer Taylor Guitars when the wood was introduced as a new material component on a series of the company's layered wood acoustic guitar models. The wood was chosen as an alternative to Indian rosewood after the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) adopted a regulation that heightens the worldwide protection of all rosewood species under the genus ''Dalbergia ''Dalbergia'' is a large genus of small to medium-size trees, shrubs and lianas in the pea family, Fabaceae, subfamily Faboideae.
