Fog is a visible aerosol consisting of tiny water droplets or ice crystals suspended in the air at or near the Earth's surface. Reprint from Fog can be considered a type of low-lying cloud usually resembling stratus and is heavily influenced by nearby bodies of water, topography, and wind conditions. In turn, fog affects many human activities, such as shipping, travel, and warfare. Fog appears when water vapor (water in its gaseous form) condenses. During condensation, molecules of water vapor combine to make tiny water droplets that hang in the air. Galactic is an American funk band from New Orleans, Louisiana. Origins and background Formed in 1994 as an octet (under the name Galactic Prophylactic) and including singer Chris Lane and guitarist Rob Gowen, the group was soon pared down to a sextet of: guitarist Jeff Raines, bassist Robert Mercurio, drummer Stanton Moore, Hammond organist Rich Vogel, Theryl DeClouet on vocals, and later adding saxophonist Ben Ellman. The group was started when Raines and Mercurio, childhood friends from affluent Chevy Chase, Maryland, moved to New Orleans together to attend college at Tulane and Loyola Universities, became enamored of the local funk scene, populated by such legendary acts as The Meters and Dirty Dozen Brass Band and inspired by local legends such as Professor Longhair. Stanton Moore
Stanton Moore (born July 9, 1972) is an American funk, jazz, and rock drummer from New Orleans. Most widely known as a founding member of Galactic, Moore has also pursued a solo recording career (beginning with his 1998 debut '' All Kooked Out!'') and recorded with bands as diverse as jazz-funk keyboardist Robert Walter and heavy metal act Corrosion of Conformity. He also travels internationally to teach New Orleans drumming, writes regularly for drumming magazines, and releases instructional books and videos. In 2017 Moore established the Stanton Moore Drum Academy. Career Moore was raised in Metairie in suburban New Orleans. As of 2008 some of Moore's recent projects include the Stanton Moore Trio, Garage A Trois and the Midnite Disturbers. Erik Jekabson
Erik Jekabson (born March 23, 1973) is an American jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player. A Bay Area-based musician, he is known for the jazz group The Electric Squeezebox Orchestra, which he leads. He is also a composer and arranger. Biography Jekabson graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2006, having already studied at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and having toured in Japan in the 1990s. While in New Orleans from 1994 to 1998 he played with Kermit Ruffins, Eddy Louiss, and the jam band Galactic. While enrolled at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, he toured with guitarist and singer John Mayer. While in New York City, he performed with jazz saxophonist Illinois Jacquet; on TV he has played on the ''Tonight Show with Jay Leno'' and ''Late Night with David Letterman''. Jazz Funk
Jazz-funk is a subgenre of jazz music characterized by a strong back beat, electrified sounds, and analog synthesizers. The integration of funk, soul, and R&B music and styles into jazz resulted in the creation of a genre that ranges from pure jazz improvisation to soul, funk or disco with jazz arrangements, jazz riffs, jazz solos, and sometimes soul vocals. Similar genres to jazz funk include acid jazz. History Jazz-funk exhibits several distinctive characteristics. A first characteristic of jazz funk has simple structure based around one or two riffs, and second characteristic of jazz funk has a harmonic structure that allows musicians to improvise. ''Crazyhorse Mongoose'' is the second studio album by American jam band Galactic. It was released on September 1, 1998 through Capricorn Records. Recording sessions took place at Brilliant Studios in San Francisco on August 18—22, 1997 and at Greyboy Studios in San Diego. Production was handled by Dan Prothero and Galactic themselves. In the United States, the album peaked at number 38 on the Top Jazz Albums and number 24 on the Top Contemporary Jazz Albums charts. Dan Prothero
Dan Prothero is an American, New Orleans–based independent record producer, recording engineer, graphic designer and record collector. He has been called "the true king of raw" by AllMusic for his emphasis on live performance, vintage analog recording techniques, and gritty drum tones. He founded Fog City Records in 1996, and began recording a string of widely acclaimed debut records which served as a springboard for the careers of Galactic, Stanton Moore, Garage A Trois, Papa Mali, Robert Walter's 20th Congress, MOFRO ( JJ Grey & Mofro), Etienne de Rocher, and Tim Bluhm. Capricorn Records was an independent record label founded by Phil Walden and Frank Fenter in 1969 in Macon, Georgia. Capricorn Records is often credited by music historians as creating the southern rock genre. History Label and studio founding In the early 60s, Phil Walden and his brother Alan Walden had made a family business of managing and representing R&B performers including Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Al Green, and Percy Sledge. As Redding's fame grew internationally, the partners founded Redwal Music, purchased a four-building block in downtown Macon, and opened a small office space a few blocks away on Cotton Avenue.
