Cook County Recorder Of Deeds
The Cook County Recorder of Deeds was the recorder of deeds of county government in Cook County, Illinois until the position's abolishment in 2020. History of office The office was established in December 1872. Before this, the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County served as the ex-officio recorder of deeds for Cook County, Illinois. On November 8, 2016, Cook County voters approved a binding referendum to eliminate the office, merging its functions into the purview of the Cook County Clerk. The office formally ceased to exist on December 7, 2020. Edward Moody
Edward M. Moody is an American politician who formerly served as Cook County recorder of deeds. He was appointed in December 2018, and served until the office was abolished in December 2020. From October 2016 through December 2018, he served as Cook County Commissioner from the 6th district. Before 2016, he served as a Worth Township highway commissioner. Early life Moody and twin brother Fred were born in either 1964 or 1965. When they were 14 years old, their mother died. Their father was an alcoholic. Early political career Moody and his twin brother Fred joined the 13th Ward Democrats, where they campaigned for Michael Madigan and other candidates. Over the years, the Moody twins would come to be considered to be among Michael Madigan's most effective and loyal operatives. Harry Yourell
Harry "Bus" Yourell (February 19, 1919 – September 19, 2011) was an American politician. Yourell was born in Hammond, Indiana on February 27, 1919. He attended high school in Chicago and La Salle Extension University. During World War II, he served in the United States Marine Corps and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After the war, Yourell moved to Oak Lawn, Illinois and opened Bus' Drive In. From 1959 to 1963 he served as a Trustee for the Village of Oak Lawn. He was involved with the Worth Township Regular Democratic Club and at the time of his election to the Illinois House of Representatives was the Democratic Committeeman of Worth Township. Karen Yarbrough
Karen Yarbrough is an American politician currently serving as Cook County Clerk. Elected on November 6, 2018, she is the first female and African American to hold the position. Yarbrough previously served as Cook County Recorder of Deeds from 2012 to 2018 and as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013. She became the interim Chair of the Democratic Party of Illinois after long-time chair Michael Madigan resigned from the position on February 22, 2021. Eugene Moore (Illinois Politician)
Eugene M. "Gene" Moore (July 19, 1942 – June 14, 2016) was a politician who served both as Cook County recorder of deeds and as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives. Early life Moore was born July 19, 1942 in Baltzer, Mississippi, the son of Sara Ella Burrell and Joseph Moore. When Moore was a young child, his family moved to Maywood, Illinois. Moore would from then on be a lifelong resident of Maywood. Moore attended Maywood's Washington Elementary School. Moore graduated from Proviso East High School. Moore earned a football scholarship to Otero Junior College. However, an injury ended his football career at Otero, and he returned to Maywood. Jesse White (politician)
Jesse Clark White (born June 23, 1934) is an American educator, politician and former athlete from the State of Illinois. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as the 37th Secretary of State of Illinois from 1999 to 2023. He was the longest-serving American to hold this office. A popular office holder, White declined to seek reelection in 2022 for a seventh term. Previously, he served as the Cook County Recorder of Deeds from 1993 to 1999 and in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1975 to 1993. Raised in Chicago, White attended Alabama State University on a sports scholarship. He was a minor league baseball player in the 1950s and 1960s.
