Conselh Generau D'Aran
The General Council of Aran (in Aranese ''Conselh Generau d'Aran'') is the autonomous governing body of the region (unofficially considered a ''comarca'') of Val d'Aran in Catalonia. The chamber is headed by the Síndic d'Aran. Composition The General Council of Aran is composed by 13 members elected every four years. Unicameral

Aranese Democratic Union
Aranese ( oc, aranés) is a standardized form of the Pyrenean Gascon variety of the Occitan language spoken in the Val d'Aran, in northwestern Catalonia close to the Spanish border with France, where it is one of the three official languages beside Catalan and Spanish. In 2010, it was declared the third official language in Catalonia by the Parliament of Catalonia. The official names of towns in Val d'Aran are Occitan; for example, the Occitan name ''Vielha'' is used on maps and road signs instead of the Catalan and Spanish ''Viella''. Official status The Aran Valley is the only territory in the language domain of Occitania where Occitan has official recognition and institutional protection. Amparo Serrano Iglesias (born ?) is a Spanish Aranese politician who served as the second Síndic d'Aran, the head of government of the autonomous Val d'Aran, from July 1993 until June 1995. She was also the second woman to hold the office of Síndic d'Aran after her predecessor, Maria Pilar Busquets. Biography In 1991, Serrano was elected to the Conselh Generau d'Aran, the governing legislature of the Val d'Aran, as a candidate from the Aranese Democratic Union (UDA) and the larger Aranese–Convergence and Unione electoral alliance. Her colleague, Maria Pilar Busquets of the Aranese Democratic Convergence (which was also a member of the coalition at the time), was elected the first Síndic d'Aran. Maria Pilar Busquets i Medan ( oc, Maria Pilar Busquets e Medan; 23 March 1937 – 13 November 2016) was a Spanish Aranese politician and writer, 1st Síndic d'Aran ("Head of the Government of the Valley") between 1991 and 1993. Career Busquets worked in the hotel sector.
