Conocybe Aurea
''Conocybe aurea'' is a basidiomycete fungus in the family Bolbitiaceae. Taxonomy The fungus was first species description, described to science in 1930 by German mycologist Julius Schäffer, who called it ''Galera aurea''. Tsuguo Hongo transferred it to the genus ''Conocybe'' in 1963. In 2000, Anton Hausknecht published the variety (botany), variety ''C. aurea'' var. ''hololeuca'', but this taxon is not considered to have independent taxonomy (biology), taxonomic significance by Index Fungorum. The botanical name, specific epithet ''aurea'', meaning gold-coloured, refers to the fruitbody colour. The species is related to ''Conocybe tenera''. Habitat and distribution ''Conocybe aurea'' is a saprobic fungus that prefers to grow in nitrate-rich soils, fields, woodchip mulch, old compost, and greenhouses. Tsuguo Hongo
was a Japanese mycologist who specialized in the biogeography and taxonomy of Agaricales. Hongo entered the Department of Biology at what is now Hiroshima University in 1943, where he studied botany until graduating in 1946 with a B.Sc. Hongo received his Ph.D. degree, entitled " Agaricales of Japan", from Kyoto University in 1961 while working under Dr. Shiro Kitamura. He was president of the Mycological Society of Japan from 1987 to 1989. In 2003 he was awarded the Minakata Kumagusu Award for contributions to mycology. Hongo published more than 130 scientific papers and 9 books. He also described 215 new taxa of Agaricales from a variety of locations. ''Conocybe apala'' is a basidiomycete fungus and a member of the genus ''Conocybe''. It is a fairly common fungus, both in North America and Europe, found growing among short green grass. Until recently, the species was also commonly called ''Conocybe lactea'' or ''Conocybe albipes'' and is colloquially known as the white dunce cap or the milky conecap. ''Conocybe tenera'' is a widely distributed member of the genus ''Conocybe''. This mushroom is the type species for the genus ''Conocybe''. Robert Kühner (15 March 1903 in Paris – 27 February 1996 in Lyon) was a French mycologist most notable for reviewing many forms of agaric (mushroom fungus) genera.
