''Congress in Seville'' (Spanish: ''Congreso en Sevilla'') is a 1955 Spanish musical film directed by Antonio Román and starring Carmen Sevilla, Fernando Fernán Gómez and Manolo Morán.de España, Rafael. ''Directory of Spanish and Portuguese Film-Makers and Films''. Greenwood Press, 1994. p. 278. . It was shot at CEA Studios in Madrid and on location in Seville. The film's sets were designed by the art director Enrique Alarcón. Plot After their business in Seville goes bankrupt, Carmen and Paco emigrate to Stockholm, where, while penniless, they must somehow get by before returning to their homeland. While in Sweden, Carmen finds a job as a dancer while Paco manages to return to Seville. Meanwhile, Carmen gets into a fight on her job and is let go. Having some spare cash, she visits the hospital where she gets a plane ticket from Dr. Petersen, a physician who has been invited to a Medical Congress in Seville. Antonio Román
Antonio Román (9 November 1911 – 16 June 1989) was a prolific Spanish film director, screenwriter, film producer. Antonio Román was born Ourense, Spain on 9 November 1911. Román began directing films in the later 1930s starting with documentaries. His first dramatic feature film was '' Esquadrilla''. His other work includes an adaptation of '' Lola Montes'' and '' La Fierecilla domada'', a retelling of ''The Taming of the Shrew''. Many of these films star his wife, actress Yvonne Bastien. Román has won several international awards such as Golden Olive Tree from the Cine de Humor de Bordighera in Italy for '' Bombas para la paz'' and an award for '' Pacto de silencio'' from the Cork Festival in Ireland. Román died on 16 June 1989. Prior to his death, he worked with Radio Exterior. José Enrique Benito y Emeterio Ysbert Alvarruiz (3 March 1886 in Madrid – 28 November 1966 in Madrid), also known as José Isbert and/or Pepe Isbert, was a Spanish actor.
