Confidence Trick
A confidence trick is an attempt to defraud a person or group after first gaining their trust. Confidence tricks exploit victims using their credulity, naïveté, compassion, vanity, confidence, irresponsibility, and greed. Researchers have defined confidence tricks as "a distinctive species of fraudulent conduct ..intending to further voluntary exchanges that are not mutually beneficial", as they "benefit con operators ('con men') at the expense of their victims (the 'marks')". Terminology Synonyms include con, confidence game, confidence scheme, ripoff, scam, and stratagem. Confidence Man (Lost)
"Confidence Man" is the eighth episode of the first season of ''Lost''. The episode was directed by Tucker Gates and written by Damon Lindelof. It first aired on November 10, 2004, on ABC. The character of James "Sawyer" Ford (Josh Holloway) is featured in the episode's flashbacks. Sawyer is accused of stealing Shannon Rutherford's (Maggie Grace) inhaler, and Sayid Jarrah (Naveen Andrews) tortures him in an attempt to find out where it is. In the flashbacks, Sawyer's life before the crash is revealed, showing his scams as a confidence man. The episode was intended to make Sawyer look like less of a belligerent, as he had generally acted as the antagonist in previous episodes. ''Confidence Man'' is the first solo album by Matt Pryor, frontman for the New Amsterdams and Get Up Kids The Get Up Kids are an American rock band from Olathe, Kansas. Formed in 1995, the band was a major player in the mid-1990s Midwest emo scene, otherwise known as the " second wave" of emo music. Their second album ''Something to Write Home About .... Recording The album was written, produced, and recorded at Pryor's home studio in Lawrence, Kansas. The first single off the album, entitled "Lorelai" was made available on Pryor's Myspace page. The album stemmed from Pryor's desire to write an album before he turned 30, to write and record an album by himself completely. The Confidence Man is a 1924 American silent romantic comedy film directed by Victor Heerman. Its duration is about 80 minutes and it stars Thomas Meighan and Virginia Valli. It was produced by Famous Players-Lasky and distributed by Paramount Pictures. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Dan Corvan and Larry Maddox, backed by fake promoter Wade, visit Fairfield to sell worthless stock to the town miser, Godfred Queritt. Corvan's suave personality impresses the townsfolk and pretty Margaret Leland. Queritt buys the stock. Wade arrives and quarrels with Corvan. An old lady inmate of the poorhouse sends for Corvan and entrusts him with money stolen by her son, which she wants turned over to its owner. This breaks Corvan down and he resolves to go straight. ''The Confidence-Man: His Masquerade'', first published in New York on April Fool's Day 1857, is the ninth book and final novel by American writer Herman Melville. The book was published on the exact day of the novel's setting. Centered on the title character, ''The Confidence-Man'' portrays a group of steamboat passengers. Their interlocking stories are told as they travel the Mississippi River toward New Orleans. The narrative structure is reminiscent of ''The Canterbury Tales'' (1392). Confidence Man are an Australian indie electro pop band formed in 2016 in Brisbane, Queensland. They released their debut album '' Confident Music for Confident People'' in April 2018. The front-duo and their band members have been a part of many festivals across Australia, most notably Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival. Background 2016-2022: Formation, ''Confident Music for Confident People'' and ''Tilt'' The band was formed in 2016. The members had met on the Brisbane music scene, and had been in other bands including: The Belligerents, Moses Gunn Collective and The Jungle Giants, and use pseudonyms in Confidence Man. They started writing dance songs together, initially as a "kind of joke", but eventually realised the material was worth pursuing.
