Friedrich Feher
Friedrich Feher (born Friedrich Weiß, 16 March 1889 – 30 September 1950) was an Austrian actor and film director. He first entered the film business in 1913, starting out as an actor but quickly gravitated toward directing. He is perhaps best remembered as Francis, the protagonist of '' The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari'' (1920). He directed ''The House Without Windows'' that same year (based on a book by Thea von Harbou), in which his art directors mimicked the Expressionist set designs of ''Caligari''; it is now considered a lost film. Feher died in 1950 in Stuttgart at age 61. Max Devrient (12 December 1857 – 14 June 1929) was a German-born stage and film actor. He worked at the Burgtheater in Vienna throughout his career, and in 1920 was made chief director.Grange p.120 He was the son of the actor Karl August Devrient. ''The Monastery of Sendomir'' ( sv, Klostret i Sendomir) is a 1920 Swedish drama film directed by Victor Sjöström, based on an 1828 short story by Franz Grillparzer. It has also been released in the UK as ''The Secret of the Monastery''. A German adaptation of the story ''The Monastery of Sendomir'', directed by Rudolf Meinert, had been released the previous year. Plot The main part of the film is told in a flashback by a monk to two visiting noblemen on their way to Warsaw in the 17th century. He tells them how a mighty count named Starschensky once ruled Sendomir (Sandomierz), but after an intrigue in which his wife was unfaithful with her own cousin he had to use all his resources to build the monastery where they are now staying. At the end it is revealed that the monk is in fact Starschensky himself. Franz Seraphicus Grillparzer (15 January 1791 – 21 January 1872) was an Austrian writer who was considered to be the leading Austrian dramatist of the 19th century. His plays were and are frequently performed at the famous Burgtheater in Vienna. He also wrote the oration for Ludwig van Beethoven's funeral, as well as the epitaph for his friend Franz Schubert. While writing during the period of Romanticism, Grillparzer's poetic language owes far more to the period of Classicism which reigned during his formative years. Committed to the classical ideals of aesthetic beauty and morality, his plots shy away from the realism which developed during his time, preferring instead to use the theater to address spiritual values, which in the words of the dying queen of his Libussa, would only come after the period of Materialism had passed.
