Concours D'Elegance
''Concours d'Elegance'' ( French: ''concours d'élégance'') is a term of French origin that means a "competition of elegance" and refers to an event where prestigious vehicles are displayed and judged. It dates back to 17th-century France, where aristocrats paraded horse-drawn carriages in the parks of Paris during summer weekends and holidays. Over time, carriages became horseless and the gatherings became a competition among vehicle owners to be judged on the appearance of their vehicles. These events are often held at automobile shows, after racing competitions or, especially in the United States, as a fundraising event for charities. Many modern events also feature corporate exhibitions from luxury and hypercar brands. The La Jolla Concours d'Elegance is a concours d'Elegance competition held annually in April on the La Jolla Cove beachfront in San Diego, California. It is hosted by the La Jolla Historical Society. History In 2004 the event started as the La Jolla Motor Car Classic that included hot rods and antiques all from the local community. The next year the committee expanded by partnering with known Southern California car enthusiasts to help expand it to the more prestigious concours audience. By 2005 the event was expanded to a full weekend, containing the La Jolla Motor Classic Car Tour that has many of the competition automobiles driving along the La Jolla coast, a black-tie cocktail party for competitors and attendees, and the finale car show on Sunday. Meadow Brook Hall is a Tudor revival style mansion located at 350 Estate Drive in Rochester Hills, Michigan. It was built between 1926 and 1929 by the heiress to the Dodge automaker fortune, Matilda Dodge Wilson and her second husband, lumber baron, Alfred Wilson. Riding Into History is a non-profit vintage motorcycle event founded in 2000 by Billy Aldrich. It was created in order to celebrate the heritage and history of motorcycles, and also to raise money for charities. It has now become one of America's premier motorcycle events and the attendance figures have increased every year.
