Compagnie Française d'Aviation (CFA) was a French aircraft manufacturer of the 1930s and 1940s. It was established in 1936 as a division of the Salmson engine company to handle the mass production of the Cricri light aircraft. Manufacturing was interrupted by World War II, but was revived on a small scale thereafter. Salmson
Salmson is a French engineering company. Initially a pump manufacturer, it turned to automobile and aeroplane manufacturing in the 20th century, returning to pump manufacturing in the 1960s, and re-expanded to a number of products and services in the late 20th and into the 21st century. It is headquartered in Chatou and has production facilities in Laval. It has subsidiaries in Argentina, Italy, Lebanon, Portugal, South Africa and Vietnam. History It was established by Émile Salmson (1858-1917) as Emile Salmson, Ing. as a workshop in Paris (1890), making steam-powered compressors and centrifugal pumps for railway and military purposes. Salmson Cricri
The Salmson ''Cricri'' ("Cricket") was a French light aircraft of the 1930s. Design and development The Cricri was a conventional, parasol-wing monoplane with fixed tailskid undercarriage and seating in tandem open cockpits for the pilot and passenger. Although originally intended for recreational flying, the type achieved its greatest success when it was selected by the French government to equip the Aviation Populaire, resulting in sales of over 300 machines. This plane was also used as a trainer and patrol aircraft in the French Air Force. Following the war, CFA attempted to revive the design as the Cricri Major. This differed from its predecessor mainly in having a more powerful engine and an enclosed cabin. Eventually, only ten examples were built.
