Moreuil
Moreuil () is a commune in the Somme department in Hauts-de-France in northern France. Geography Moreuil is situated on the D920 and D935 crossroads, some southeast of Amiens, on the banks of the river Avre. Moreuil station has rail connections to Amiens and Compiègne. Population History Known by several names over the years, Morolium (1103), Moroil (1183), Moruel, Moroilum, Moroiel, Moreul (1240), Moureul, Moureuil (1340), Morveul, Morvels and finally Moreuil, the commune has ancient origins. Flint tools have been found here and the presence of tall boundary stones indicates pre-Roman settlement. Moreuil comes from a Celtic word meaning ‘sea’. Moreuil is found on the Roman road that links Compiègne, Montdidier and Amiens which explains the number of Gallo-Roman finds in the vicinity. Domart-sur-la-Luce
Domart-sur-la-Luce is a commune in the Somme department in Hauts-de-France in northern France. Geography The commune is situated on the D934 road, on the banks of the Luce, some southeast of Amiens. Population History Domart is sited on an old Roman road, known as the ‘chaussée d'Agrippa’ (Agrippa way), named after the general and politician. The road ran between Amiens and Noyon. Known from writings of 1105, the first seigneur of Domart appears in 1154, called Ibert or Aubert. His château, now all but disappeared, was home to the seigneurs of Domart until the end of the 18th century, as well as to the Princes of Savoy. At the time of the French Revolution, there were nearly 700 inhabitants of Domart. Thennes
Thennes () is a commune in the Somme department in Hauts-de-France in northern France. Geography Thennes is situated southeast of Amiens, on the D11a road and bordered to the north and northwest by the river Luce, and to the west by the river Avre. Population History Known as Tanes in 1128, because of the tanneries in the area, it became known as Thannes then Thannes-Thennes in 1507. The history of Thennes has always been closely linked with that of the neighbouring commune of Berteaucourt-les-Thennes. From 780, Thennes was the property of the abbey at Corbie, later, as a fiefdom, it passed to the seigneurs of Boves, before returning to Corbie in the 13th century.
