Chalon-sur-Saône (, literally ''Chalon on Saône'') is a city in the Saône-et-Loire department in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. It is a sub-prefecture of the department. It is the largest city in the department; however, the department capital is the smaller city of Mâcon. Geography Chalon-sur-Saône lies in the south of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and in the east of France, approximately north of Mâcon. It is located on the Saône river, and was once a busy port, acting as a distribution point for local wines which were sent up and down the Saône river and the Canal du Centre, opened in 1792. Givry, Saône-et-Loire
Givry () is a commune in the Saône-et-Loire department in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. Geography Located from Chalon-sur-Saône, Givry is a small town, famous for its listed monuments and its wines. It is surrounded on the southeast by the commune's forest, and on the east by vineyards; the commune of Givry also includes three hamlets: Cortiambles, Poncey and Russilly. History Givry's foundation dates back to the Gallo-Roman era. Its fortifications were built in the Middle Ages. As of the 18th century, several architectural works were established. Fontaines, Saône-et-Loire
Fontaines () is a commune in the Saône-et-Loire department in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. History Formerly Fontanœ then Fontes. The village owes its name to the numerous source which spring from his territory. We find tracks of Roman time there.
