Commonwealth MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the East West line in Queenstown, Singapore located at Commonwealth Avenue near the junction of Commonwealth Drive. The station serves the residential neighbourhoods of Commonwealth and Tanglin Halt. The station is in the vicinity of schools such as New Town Primary School, CHIJ Kellock, Faith Methodist Church, and Queensway Secondary School. The residential estates and station bearing the same name were named after Commonwealth Avenue built around 1963, which in turn was named after the British Commonwealth of Nations. Buona Vista MRT Station
Buona Vista MRT station is a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the East West line and Circle line in Queenstown, Singapore. This station is close to one-north, a high technology business park for the biomedical science, infocomm technology and media industries. It is located near the junction of North Buona Vista Road, Commonwealth Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue West. History Buona Vista station opened on 12 March 1988, as part of Phase 1B of the MRT line which runs from Outram Park to Clementi. Queenstown MRT Station
Queenstown MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the East West line in Queenstown, Singapore. It is built on a traffic island along Commonwealth Avenue. The station is named after Queen Elizabeth II to mark her coronation in 1952. History The station was opened on 12 March 1988, as part of the extension of the MRT system from Outram Park to Clementi. Half-height platform screen doors were installed in January 2011 and started operations on 28 April 2011 together with Commonwealth. The station was expanded starting mid-2012 and was opened on 23 August 2015 with a new overhead bridge and two new exits, the same day as Commonwealth MRT station. Incidents On 29 November 2010, a Chinese man in his 40s was knocked by an incoming train at about 8.15 pm, was found lying on the tracks below the last carriage and was pronounced dead by SCDF medics. Clementi MRT Station
Clementi MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the East-West Line in Clementi, Singapore. The station will become an interchange station with the Cross Island Line in 2032. The tracks between Clementi station and Jurong East MRT station are the second longest between any two stations on the East West Line; the longest being the tracks between Expo MRT station and Changi Airport MRT station. 1 Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. Queensway Secondary School
Queensway Secondary School (QSS) is a co-educational government secondary school in Queenstown, Singapore. It offers a four to five-year course leading to the Singapore-Cambridge GCE Ordinary Level or Singapore-Cambridge GCE Normal Level examinations. History QSS was officially opened by Lim Teck Hin, Member of Parliament for Tiong Bahru, on 2 September 1961. It was the first school to have a hall built for badminton. The development of school followed the growth of Queenstown. By 1963, the school had 36 classes and 50 teachers. It then became a two-session school.
