The Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) is a committee of the European Parliament. Responsibilities The main responsibilities of the committee are the interpretation and application of international and European law and the compliance of European Union acts with the treaties of the European Union. It is also responsible for legislation in the areas of civil law, commercial law, intellectual property and procedural law. It is responsible for matters relating to the statutes and political immunity of MEPs and EU staff. Committees Of The European Parliament
The committees of the European Parliament are designed to aid the European Commission in initiating legislation. Standing committees are made up of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), who are directly elected to the seats in the European Parliament by the electorate. Each committee has a chairman and four vice-chairmen, along with numerous committee members. Each committee also has substitute members. Reports are usually compiled by a rapporteur, who is appointed by the chairman of the committee, selected from amongst the members or permanent substitutes. Jean-Marie Cavada (born 24 February 1940 in Épinal, Vosges) is a French politician and former journalist and media executive who last served as a Member of the European Parliament for Ile de France from 2004 until 2019. Dietmar Köster (born 6 January 1957) is a German politician, social scientist and Member of the European Parliament (MEP) representing Germany since July 2014. He is a member of the Social Democratic Party, part of the Party of European Socialists. Mary Hilda Rosamund Honeyball (born 12 November 1952 in Weymouth, Dorset) is a former British Labour Party politician. She was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for London from 2000 to 2019. Seventh on Labour's 1999 list, she had not been elected in the 1999 European Parliament election, but replaced Pauline Green, who resigned as an MEP in November 1999.
