Comino ( mt, Kemmuna) is a small island of the Maltese archipelago between the islands of Malta Malta ( , , ), officially the Republic of Malta ( mt, Repubblika ta' Malta ), is an island country in the Mediterranean Sea. It consists of an archipelago, between Italy and Libya, and is often considered a part of Southern Europe. It lies ... and Gozo in the Mediterranean Sea, measuring in area. Named after the cumin seed, the island has a permanent population of only two residents and is part of the municipality of Għajnsielem, in southeastern Gozo, from where one priest and one policeman commute. Comino Valley
The Valle di Comino () is a valley in the province of Frosinone, in Lazio in central Italy. It runs from San Biagio Saracinisco to Vicalvi and is adjacent to the Abruzzi mountains. It grossly corresponds to the upper valley of the Melfa river, which runs through it before joining the Liri. History According to tradition, the name of the valley can be traced to ancient Cominium, destroyed in 293 BC. In Livy's ''History of Rome'', there are early references to Cominium as the site of a battle between the Samnites and the Romans. Some suggest that the town of San Donato is the ancient Cominium, others believe the battle site was at Vicalvi. The area was however already settled in prehistoric times; later it was inhabited by Osco-Sabellian tribes. Its main center was Atina, mentioned in Virgil's ''Aeneid''. Athanassio Comino
Athanassio Comino ( el, Αθανάσιος Κομηνός), (c. 1844–1897) was a Greek oyster merchant and businessman. Comino was born in Kythera, Greece in about 1844, son of Dimitrios Comino and his wife Agapy. Comino arrived in Sydney in 1873 as a crew member on a sailing ship and found work at the Balmain Colliery. A fish-and-chips shop owned by a Welshman in Oxford Street, Sydney and his familiarity with seafood in the Greek islands pointed him to the idea of a similar venture. In 1878, he opened an oyster saloon a few doors down from the fish-and-chips shop. From 1882 he took up the lease of oyster beds at the mouth of the Lane Cove River, then Port Jackson and the Evans River on the north coast. Domenico Comino (born 27 September 1955) is an Italian politician, who served as the minister of European affairs and state minister in the mid-1990s. Biography Comino was born in Morozzo on 27 September 1955. He is one of the former leaders of Lega Nord. He served as state minister for the EU relations in the first cabinet of Silvio Berlusconi in 1994. Comino was one of the five Lega members in the cabinet who resigned from office in December 1994 in order to vote against Berlusconi in the censure motion. Comino served in the Italian parliament for three successive periods between 1992 and 1997. Until 1999 he was the Lega Nord's president of the Piedmont region.
