Come And See (2019 Film)
''Come and See'' ( th, เอหิปัสสิโก; ) is a Thai documentary film directed by Nottapon Boonprakob and produced by ''UnderDoc Film''. The film focuses on the alleged controversies regarding the teachings and practices of Wat Phra Dhammakaya and chronicles the events of the 23-day lockdown of the temple by the Thai military junta in 2017. The film was initially screened at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea in 2019 before being released in Thailand in April 2021 following approval by Thai media censors. The film's original Thai language name, ''Ehipassiko'', comes from a phrase commonly used in a Pali language Theravada Buddhist chant, meaning literally "come and see", hence the name. Wat Phra Dhammakaya
Wat Phra Dhammakaya ( th, วัดพระธรรมกาย, , ) is a Buddhist temple ('' wat'') in Khlong Luang district, in the Pathum Thani province north of Bangkok, Thailand. It was founded in 1970 by the ''maechi'' (nun) Chandra Khonnokyoong and Luang Por Dhammajayo. It is the best-known and the fastest growing temple of the Dhammakaya tradition. This tradition, teaching Dhammakaya meditation (''Vijja Dhammakaya''), was started by the meditation master Luang Pu Sodh Candasaro in the early-20th century. Wat Phra Dhammakaya is one of the temples that emerged from this tradition and is part of the Mahā Nikāya fraternity. The temple is legally represented by the Dhammakaya Foundation. 2020–2021 Thai Protests
In Thailand, protests began in early 2020 with demonstrations against the government of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. They later expanded to include the unprecedented demands for reform of the Thai monarchy. The protests were initially triggered by the dissolution of the Future Forward Party (FFP) in late February 2020 which was critical of Prayut, the changes to the Thai constitution in 2017, and the country's political landscape that it gave rise to. The Film Archive (Public Organization) (FA; th, หอภาพยนตร์ (องค์การมหาชน)), also commonly referred to as the Thai Film Archive (TFA), is a film archive in Thailand. It was established in 1984 as the National Film Archive, operating under the Fine Arts Department. Nidhi Eoseewong ( th, นิธิ เอียวศรีวงศ์, , ; also rendered ''Nithi Aeusrivongse'', ''Nithi ‘Īaosīwong'', and ''Nithi ʻĪeosīwong''; born May 8, 1940) is a prominent Thai historian, writer, and political commentator. Biography Nidhi Eoseewong was born on 8 May 1940, to an ethnic Chinese family in Chiang Mai, Thailand. He studied at Assumption College Sriracha in Chonburi Province, and went on to earn bachelor's and master's degrees in history from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. Upon graduation, he accepted a position teaching history at Chiang Mai University, where he would go on to spend the majority of his professional career. He took temporary leave to continue his studies, completing a PhD from the University of Michigan in 1976. He retired in 2000, but has remained active in the academic community.
