Comarcas Of The Basque Country
The autonomous community of the Basque Country within Spain contains several ''comarcas'' or ''eskualdeak'' in the Basque language, referring to local districts, grouped into its three long-established provinces. Busturialdea, also named ''Busturialde - Urdaibai'' is a comarca of the province of Biscay, in the Basque Country, Spain. It is the heir of "Busturia", one of the original ''merindades'' that used to compose the province of Biscay – this should not be confused with Busturia, a municipality located in this region. Busturialdea is a diminished portion of the same original subregion and has two capital cities; Bermeo and Gernika-Lumo. It is one of the seven ''comarcas'' that compose the province of Biscay. Urola Kosta
The Urola is a river and valley in Gipuzkoa, Basque Autonomous Community, Spain. The river is only 55 kilometres in length, and runs from headwaters in the Aizkorri Mountains, near the town of Legazpi to its outflow into the Cantabrian Sea at the town of Zumaia on the Bay of Biscay . It forms the border between the municipalities of Zumárraga and Urretxu, and further downriver, it passes through the towns of Azkoitia and Azpeitia. The word ''urola'' comes from two basque words ''Ur'' and ''Ola'', meaning "water" and "factory" respectively referring to the water mills which have stood in the valley since the Middle Ages. Donostialdea
Donostialdea is one of the eight regions of Gipuzkoa, in the Basque Autonomous Community, corresponding to the basin of the lower Urumea River, along with a strip of basin corresponding to the Oria River, the region borrowing its name from Donostia-San Sebastián, the capital city of Gipuzkoa in Spain. The region comprises eleven municipalities extending in an area of 305.72 km2 (see below, data released in 2006). Debabarrena
Debabarrena (English: ''Lower Deba'') is an '' eskualdea / comarca'' located in Gipuzkoa, Basque Country (Spain). It has an area of 180,3 km². It is north from the comarca of Debagoiena, east from the province of Biscay, and south from the Gulf of Biscay. The municipalities which compose Debabarrena are Eibar, Soraluze/Placencia de las Armas, Elgoibar, Mendaro, Deba and Mutriku. Eibar is the biggest one with about 28,000 inhabitants. The second biggest one is Elgoibar, with about 11,000 inhabitants, and the other municipalities have less than 10,000 citizens. Natural environment Debabarrena is surrounded by many mountains, which are not very high. The higher ones have a height of around 800 metres. Bidasoaldea ( eu, Bidasoaldea, es, Bajo Bidasoa) is one of the eight eskualdeak/comarcas of Gipuzkoa, Basque Autonomous Community, corresponding to the basin of the lower Bidasoa extending in Gipuzkoan soil and named after the river, in Spain. Lea-Artibai is an ''eskualdea/comarca'' of the province of Biscay (Bizkaia), in the Basque Country, Spain. Lea-Artibai is the heir of the historical ''merindad'' of Markina, which was one of the ''merindades'' of Biscay. Currently, Lea-Artibai is one of the seven ''comarcas'' that compose the province. Its capital city is Markina-Xemein. Geography Lea-Artibai is located at the northeast extreme of the province. It limits with the ''comarcas'' of Busturialdea at west and Durangaldea at south, while the province of Gipuzkoa is at the east. The Bay of Biscay sits on the north.
