Columbia Hotel
The Columbia Hotel is a former European-style hotel in Ashland, Oregon, and at the time of its closing in 2021 had been in continuous operation since its construction in 1910. The hotel occupied the second floor of the Enders Building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. Designed by architect Frank Chamberlain Clark, the Enders Building was the first concrete commercial structure in Ashland. ''Ashland Daily Tidings, The Ashland Tidings'', December 12, 1910, called it "the largest structure of its kind in Southern Oregon." Featuring characteristics of the Chicago style, it is also significant as an early example of a department store. Ashland Downtown Historic District
The Ashland Downtown Historic District in Ashland, Oregon is a historic district (United States) which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. The district is roughly bounded by Lithia Way and C Street, Church, Lithia Park and Hargadine and Gresham Streets. The listing included 55 contributing buildings and six contributing objects, as well as 26 non-contributing buildings and one non-contributing object. Eleven buildings were already separately listed on the National Register. Ashland, Oregon
Ashland is a city in Jackson County, Oregon, United States. It lies along Interstate 5 approximately 16 miles (26 km) north of the California border and near the south end of the Rogue Valley. The city's population was 21,360 at the 2020 census. The city is the home of Southern Oregon University (SOU) and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF). These are important to Ashland's economy, which also depends on restaurants, galleries, and retail stores that cater to tourists. Frank Chamberlain Clark
Frank Chamberlain Clark (1872–1957) was an American architect active in Southern Oregon. Many of his works are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Clark has been said to be "the leading architect of the Rogue River Valley from the time of his arrival in southern Oregon in 1902 to his retirement in 1945." with Clark was joined in partnership by Robert Keeney in 1935. The ''Ashland Daily Tidings'' was a morning newspaper serving the city of Ashland, Oregon, United States. It was owned by Rosebud Media, like its sister publication, the Medford-based ''Mail Tribune,'' which has continued to publish. The ''Daily Tidings'' was distributed Monday through Saturday mornings (Saturday afternoon publication was changed under Editor Andrew Scot Bolsinger in 2004; Circulation Director Ed Rose changed the Daily Tidings from afternoon production to morning in December, 2010).
