The High Commissioner of the Republic in New Caledonia is the representative of the French Republic in New Caledonia. with the rank of prefect, generally referred to locally in the media as "Haussaire". Aristide Le Fol
Jean-Bertrand Aristide (born 15 July 1953) is a Haitian former Salesian priest and politician who became Haiti's first democratically elected president. A proponent of liberation theology, Aristide was appointed to a parish in Port-au-Prince in 1982 after completing his studies to become a priest. He became a focal point for the pro-democracy movement first under Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier and then under the military transition regime which followed. He won the 1990–91 Haitian general election, with 67% of the vote. Marie Jacques Noël Pardon (4 June 1854 – 12 July 1910) was a French colonial administrator. He served in Cochinchina, New Caledonia, and as Governor of Guadeloupe and Martinique. After leaving the colonial service he was involved in various private enterprises to develop the colonies. Career Early years (1854–89) Noël Pardon was born on 4 June 1854 in Chalon-sur-Saône. Delphino Moracchini (1846–1903) was a French colonial administrator who served in French Guiana, French India, French Polynesia and New Caledonia. He was appointed assistant to the Governor of Martinique in 1890, where his prompt action in responding to a fire in Fort-de-France led to his being appointed governor the next year. He dealt efficiently with recovery from a major hurricane in 1891. In 1895 he was transferred to Guadeloupe, where he had to deal with an earthquake, fire and hurricane. He also found himself in the middle of a struggle between the white proprietors and the socialists, in which he managed to preserve the peace at the cost of his popularity. ''Adolphe'' is a classic French novel by Benjamin Constant, first published in 1816. It tells the story of an alienated young man, Adolphe, who falls in love with an older woman, Ellénore, the Polish mistress of the Comte de P***. Their illicit relationship serves to isolate them from their friends and from society at large. The book eschews all conventional descriptions of exteriors for the sake of detailed accounts of feelings and states of mind.
