Colombo Port City Economic Commission Act
The bill titled as Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill is regarded as one of the important legislations to be passed in the Parliament of Sri Lanka as it is related to the Colombo Port City project, which is the biggest foreign investment received by Sri Lanka from China in the country's history. The bill was slated and deemed as controversial as critics feared that China could influence in Sri Lankan territory through the Port City project. However, critics pointed out that the bill has been mandated on the favour of Chinese authorities and insisted that the bill was also not subjected to pre-parliamentary review by the professional organisations. Colombo International Financial City ( si, කොළඹ ජාත්යන්තර මූල්ය නගරය, translit=Koḷam̆ba Jātyantara Mūlya Nagaraya) is a special economic zone and International Financial Centre located in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which is currently under construction on reclaimed land adjacent to the Galle Face Green. The COVID-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka is part of the ongoing worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 () virus. The first case of the virus in Sri Lanka was confirmed on 27 January 2020, after a 44-year-old Chinese woman from Hubei, China, was admitted to the Infectious Disease Hospital in Angoda, Sri Lanka. The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (, ta, ஐக்கிய மக்கள் சக்தி, "United People's Power") is a political alliance that is led by the opposition leader of Sri Lanka, Sajith Premadasa. The alliance was formed with the approval from the working committee of the United National Party (UNP) to contest the 2020 Sri Lankan parliamentary election. On 11 February 2020 the election commission of Sri Lanka announced that they have accepted the party as a recognised political party in Sri Lanka.
