Colombia–Venezuela Border
The Colombia–Venezuela border is an international border of 2219 kilometers (1378 mi) between Colombia and Venezuela, with a total of 603 milestones that demarcate the line. It is the longest border of both Colombia and Venezuela. The border, at least in its terrestrial part, was essentially demarcated by two treaties: the Spanish Arbitration Award of Queen Maria Cristina of 1891 and the Treaty of Limits and River Navigation of 1941. But the definition of the border in the Gulf of Venezuela is still disputed, causing diplomatic clashes between the two countries. In August 2015, two Venezuelan soldiers were injured during a fight with alleged Colombian smugglers, prompting Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to close a large part of the border, except in Táchira. Ragonvalia
Ragonvalia () is a Colombian municipality and town located in the department of North Santander. History The municipality was founded in 1860 thanks to migration from the neighbouring towns of Chinácota, el Chopo (today known as Pamplonita) and Villa del Rosario that emigrated to the limits of the Táchira River (the river that divides Colombia and Venezuela). They traversed the mountain range because of the civil war of 1860–1862. Thus the first camps were established in the valley consisting of the streams Paso Antiguo and La Hormadera. In the historic archives are mentioned Miguel Contreras, Juan Tarazona y Rafael Quintero as the first to obtain property titles in these terrains. It was Quintero who drew in the initial settlers. The president of the Sovereign State of Santander Solón Wilches, through a decree of the 27th of September 1881, created the settlement of "Planadas". Inírida, Guainía
Inírida (), formerly Puerto Inírida, is the capital city, and a municipality, of the department of Guainía in Colombia. It was established in 1963 on the site of the small village of Obando, at the time in the municipality of San Felipe. The municipality was renamed in 1974. The municipal population of 31,514 (Census 2018) is mostly indigenous and accounts for about a third of the department's population. Puerto Carreño
Puerto Carreño () is the departmental capital, and a municipality, of the department of Vichada in the Llanos of Colombia. History In 1913 the Colombian government created the province (comisaria) of Vichada and it was decided that its capital should be at the convergence of the Orinoco and Meta rivers where there was a small village known locally as El Picacho. In 1934 the town was renamed after Pedro Maria Carreño, the Colombian Minister of External Relations from 1912 to 1913. The "municipio" (similar to county in the U.S.) was created in 1974. On July 5, 1991, Vichada's status was updated to "departamento" under the Colombian Constitution and Puerto Carreño was ratified as its capital. The DANE (Colombian government's bureau for statistics) projected Puerto Carreño's municipal population to be around 10,034 for 2005, based on the 1993 Census. Arauca is a municipality and capital city of the Arauca Department of Colombia. Its full name is Villa de Santa Bárbara de Arauca, it is located at N 07° 05′ 25″ - W 70° 45′ 42″.
